What a night for Mavs, Kinsler

10:48 PM Wed, Apr 15, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

For a minute Wednesday night I thought I was going to wear out the previous channel button on my TV remote.

Two games, Mavs-Rockets and Rangers-Orioles, were entertaining and compelling two entirely different ways.

One was tight most of the game with comebacks and emotion, and playoff seeding at stake.

The other was an old-fashioned blowout, a drubbing that including some amazing individual performances, including Ian...

Aaron Chimbel

The Dallas Mavericks did their part and so did the San Antonio Spurs.

Behind an explosive fourth quarter, the Mavs topped the Houston Rockets 95-84 in the regular season finale and to get at least 50 wins for the ninth consecutive season.

The Spurs took overtime to defeat the New Orleans Hornets 105-98.

What does it all mean?

Well, the Mavs and Spurs will now face each other in the first round of the playoffs. ...

Here is the Texas Rangers' announcement on the death of former Rangers broadcaster Merle Harmon:

The Texas Rangers today issued the following statement on the passing of former broadcaster Merle Harmon, who died this afternoon at the age of 82:

"Major League Baseball and the Texas Rangers have lost a legendary play-by-play announcer and a great friend. Merle Harmon called games with distinction and class in his nearly 40 years ...

There's no cheering in baseball?

Let me first start off by saying that I'm a Rangers fan. Even though I grew up in Iowa, I loved the Rangers when I was a kid. I think it was because they were the first team I saw in person. But last night, some of that love disappeared.

I went out for a quiet night at the ballpark to watch one of my favorite pitchers, Brandon McCarthy, pitch. Unfortunately I decided to pick a seat two rows up from some of the most loyal Range...

Rangers active Eyre, option Madrigal

Aaron Chimbel

Maybe something positive to look forward to from the Rangers bullpen, maybe.

Here's the official release from the Rangers:

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Willie Eyre from his rehabilitation assignment and activated him from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster for Eyre, the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Warner Madrigal to Triple-A Oklahoma City...

Carlisle hopes Howard plays

12:13 PM Wed, Apr 15, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle hopes forward Josh Howard will play tonight against the Houston Rockets at the AAC.

Howard has been sidelined for much of the recent part of the season with an ankle injury, but when he's played he's been quite a spark for the Mavs.

In their last game before the playoffs, Carlisle said Howard will still be a game time decision, but seems to expect him to play tonight.

Big night in the NBA

Ted Madden

Have you seen the standings in the Western Conference? Denver is the 2 seed (but only by one game), three teams are tied for the 3rd seed, Dallas and New Orleans are tied for the 6th seed, and all of those teams play each other tonight. Wow.

The nba.com website breaks down the playoff scenario here

Quick preview: the Rockets can fin...

Would You Care If Rangers Left Town?

11:17 AM Wed, Apr 15, 2009 |
David Marcus

It's safe to say that fan apathy has never been greater in Arlington.

The Rangers' smallest crowd ever at the Ballpark in Arlington (Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, or Ameriquest Field, or the Park With The Terrible Traffic) on Monday served notice.

Fans are not only fed up...they don't care. And they are stayin...

It's just sports... get a grip

10:02 AM Wed, Apr 15, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

Really, can we all just get along.

I know we all love our favorite sports teams, live and die by them, but there is a line... somewhere.

I think we found it in D.C.

The story goes, guy sees a car with one of those Dallas Cowboys fans on a car stopped in traffic and decided to rip it off and throw ...
