Today, the St. Louis Rams released 32-year-old receiver Torry Holt, after he posted his lowest yardage and touchdown totals since his rookie season in 1999. Jerry Jones, this is one move even you couldn't screw up. Holt is the anti-T.O., a selfless team-first guy who's the consummate professional. When did you last hear about Torry Holt whining about his quarterback or his fellow tight end? Holt may not be the nearly 1,700 yard receiver of a few years ago, but he's still a threat. And let's not forget, last year's Rams were flat-out miserable. Don't read too much into Holt's one-year decline. He's still a very capable receiver. So if you're the Cowboys, you bring Holt in to start opposite Roy Williams. Not a bad 1-2 punch, if you ask me. That way, Sam Hurd or Miles Austin can be brought along slowly and mentored by Holt, one of the best all-time in the game. Williams is still trying to establish himself, and is probably not the mentoring kind right now. But Holt would fill that role tremendously for the Cowboys. You could certainly do a lot worse for your #2 receiver. That move would allow Dallas to instantly form a respectable tandem for Romo. Add in Witten and the running game, and even offensive coordinator Jason Garrett couldn't lose. The only question is how much the Cowboys would be willing to pay Holt. Say one good thing about Jerry- he doesn't back away from the money. If there's a way for him to stay under the Cap and get the deal done, he will. 10 CommentsLeave a comment |

Why is it that every free-agent player automatically becomes a perfect fit for the Cowboys? There is a reason these players are being released or not re-signed by their previous teams.
I don't think we need to spend anymore time bringing Hurd and Austin along slowly; they have been "bring along" for the last couple of years. It's time they took over and do their job, and if they can't then let them go. I think Austin will to just fine (if he doesn't get hurt again). Hurd hasn't set any fires yet, but we should see this year.
Jerry Jones would be dumb to not at least attempt to sign Holt. They need another receiver, why not a veteran with great numbers and a great attitude? I know that's the opposite of what the Cowboys usually sign, but if they are serious about making a strong run in the playoffs..get er done.
Anyone have Alvin Harpers number?
Toory Holt would be a great fit for the Cowboys. Romo also likes speed receivers that can separate from defenders. Romo blossomed when Owens and Glenn were both lining up. It was like pick your poison. Romo's struggles started when he lost his double threat. Glenn was hurt then released by next season. Defenses started to double up on Owens every play to slow him down. Blitzes came more often to rush Romo, and wear down the O-Line. The results were more interceptions, more sacks, injuries to Romo, and a unhappy T.O.! Now Romo has lost the speed that T.O. displayed. I think it's to risky to hope that Miles, or Hurd can step up. Hurd was hurt all of last season, and while Miles did show flashes last season he too was also injured. Cowboys are not in the moment of rebuilding. They need to equip their QB with proven receivers and Holt is just what Romo needs. For the moment the only receiver on the team that has separation speed is Miles. Possesion receivers like Williams, Hurd, and Crayton do not bold well for Romo. They can make a play here and there but thats it. Roy Williams told the media in a report after loss that he was open but Romo does not understand what open is for him. The problem is Williams does not understand what is open for Romo. Romo does not posses great accuracy like Aikman, Brady, Marino, or Manning. Romo's accuracy to me seem to be about average to good at times. Possesion receivers really need a QB that has good or great accuracy when throwing the ball. These receiver are not going to the separation like Owens and Glenn. The Cowboys problem is their messing with the chemistry that works for Romo. History shows Romo's success to be with speed receivers. Why change it? While Holt is on the market the Cowboys should make a move to get him. Cowboys do not time to mess with the unproven for starting jobs.
Doesn't matter. Jerry will ruin the team
that Parcels left for him.
Stop wanting to sign the old guys. Lets let our young players shine. they will never be able become superstars if they have to play second to an aging player that other teams dont want. like some one said earlier they are being released for a reason. Let5s develop the young talent we already have.
I dont think anybody excpects the boys to go to the bowl this year so lets not waste cap money on a vetren and just work on the draft and developing the players we got.

We have enough receivers! If this offense is going to succeed everyone needs to realize that the Patriots offense in 2007 was a freak of nature. Garrett having three running backs that could start on any NFL team decided in the off season, last year, that being the Patriots was the way to go. So the Cowboys last year go full on spread and four wide. Meanwhile Tony needs to start staying in the poacket and being Tom Brady. Romo is not Brady and the Patriots offense will never be seen again! The strength of this team is the running game. EVERYHTING needs to start from that premise. The offensive line is built to shove the ball down your throat. Any bring back the old Romo. The one that took a bad snap 30 yards back and ran for a first down! Not the one Garrett thinks needs to be 4 inches taller and the most accurate passer in NFL history!
Tory Holt is badass, this would be a great place for him. He's one of those guys the rest of league thought was too old or washed up. He can come here and prove them all wrong. As far as being old, he's not at all. At 32 years of age he should be just hitting his long stride. The maturity and discipline he would bring with him can only help the team. Sign him Jerry!
