I was watching ESPN's coverage of Terrell Owens' release last night when they brought on Stephen A. Smith, who said he talked to a couple people close to TO after his release. Smtih spent 4 1/2 minutes basically taking Owens' side in the matter, which I disagree with, but I think it was important that he brought a contrarian view to the discussion (to that point, most of ESPN's conversation about TO centered on his problems outweighing his benefits).

But, Smith said one thing that I thought was very interesting. Keep in mind, he said this in defense of Owens, but I heard it as an indictment:

"When he (TO) had that dispute with Donovan McNabb, years ago, more than half of that locker room, in Philadelphia, sided with him because they said he was telling the truth."

Isn't that the EXACT definition of a divisive figure? Whether TO was right or wrong, or telling the truth, is irrelavant - he divided the locker room.
