Stars season over with 6 games to go

The Dallas Stars are now 33-33-10. Their season is over and they still have six games to play.

The Stars are in 12th place in the NHL's Western Conference, the top eight of the 15 teams in the conference make the playoffs. The Stars are also seven points behind St. Louis, which is in eighth place.

It's a frustrating end to a frustrating season. The Stars have lost their last seven, including two in overtime.

The Stars were in the conference finals last year and hopped to make another run at a Stanley Cup, 10 years after their last one.

But injuries and inconsistent play doomed the team and now they're just playing out their schedule. It'll be just the third time since the Stars moved to Dallas in 1993 that they won't make the playoffs.

The hard work will come in the months ahead. Stars co-GMs Les Jackson and Brett Hull must determine, along with coach Dave Tippett, if the Stars can make another run -- no one really expected it last year -- or if it's time to make some major changes.

My vote -- it's time to change.

Its time for Turco to be bought out and sent his way. His time is over as the goaltending face of the Dallas Stars, sorry Turco.

Everyone's ready to dump Turco because of 1 off year. It's not really his fault he didn't have a good back up and a relatively young defense. Yes, he cost us a few games, but was far from the reason we didn't make the playoffs.

Before shouting "change change change" how about realizing that half of our current salary is injured??? When it was just Morrow and Zubov gone, we were winning a lot of games, but no one can overcome having 5-9 top players out at a time. Even Detroit wouldn't make the playoffs dealing with that.

Add a top d-man and a backup goalie. That, with Morrow and Zubie back, I look for the stars to be back with a vengence. They have plenty of forwards and young defensemen. I bet they make a trade to get a top line player in return for some of their depth.

Oh, and no Avery. There's an extra 10 points right there.

Never give up! Go Stars!
