After Ranger's GM Jon Daniels brought in Kenny Lofton and Eric Gagne for one year to ship them away for prospects, I have been a huge fan of him doing the same thing again. This winter I was a huge supporter of them signing Randy Johnson to a one-year deal, but it never grew any legs. I wanted Johnson to pitch here until July giving the younger guys some time to pitch in the minors. Then right before the trade deadline you trade Johnson to a title contender for a prospect or two. Pedro is looking for John Smoltz money. The Red Sox gave him 5 million dollars for the year and Smoltz is coming off a major shoulder injury. Is 5 million worth getting a half of a year out of him and sending him elsewhere for a prospect or two? It's not my money, but I would pull the move in MLB 09 The Show. Just like I said before in previous blogs, the reason the Rangers struggled at times last year, was the pitchers were not ready to be throwing in the majors. I have never understood the argument, "we should have the young guys out there learning how to pitch". This is wrong; you learn to pitch in the minors. Not in the majors. What is good about a young guy getting rocked by Vladimir Guerrero or David Ortiz?" |
