Mavs lower some ticket prices for next season

The Dallas Mavericks are lowering some of their ticket prices for next season. My colleague, Arnold Payne, wrote earlier today about the challenges facing pro sports teams in this down economy.

Here is the news release from the Mavs:

The Dallas Mavericks have once again announced a reduction in pricing for more than half the seats in the American Airlines Center.

"Our goal is to make Mavs games not only fun and exciting, but the most reasonably priced out of home entertainment available. To that end, we have lowered pricing on more than half our tickets," said Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavericks. "In addition, we continue to set the example for all of collegiate and professional sports by offering more than 500 seats for $2, and almost 4,000 seats at $15 or less."

The Mavs are also offering season ticket holders a new seven month payment plan to pay for both season ticket renewals and playoffs.

2009-10 Mavericks season ticket holders will also receive the best options for tickets to the 2010 NBA All-Star festivities.

"This will be the biggest and best All-Star week in NBA history," said Cuban. "Everything will be super sized. There will be special events for all North Texans to enjoy, but we are especially excited about the priorities we will be able to offer season ticket holders and our marketing partners. This is going to be bigger than anything Dallas, Fort Worth and all of North Texas have ever experienced."

Well, this is good. This might mean I can actually take the family out to a game with giving up half my paycheck.

It's the service charges and parking that jacks up the prices and makes it hard to justify going. Lower those as well.

Not sorry to see this happen. We were with the Mavs through the horrible 90s, when it was tough for them to get people into Reunion Arena. We enjoyed all the promotions, like "Nelly's Night Out," and win or lose, we were semi-regulars for a team whose brightest hope was ultimately Gary Trent. When Cubes took over, got the team winning, and the AAC happened, that's when the fan-screwing started, all for the almighty dollar. The "comparable" season ticket plan we had in Reunion was a joke over in the AAC, and now that the Mavs are "maybe" for the playoffs, they're going to do whatever they can to put fans into the seats (Hint: The boob job and cocaine crowd don't care about the Mavs, now that they're not a big show.). Sorry, guys, you had us the first time, and you got greedy. Enjoy the golf course and the off season.

Thank You! Finally I can go to more than one Mavs game and enjoy my favorite team. At least they're making it to the playoffs. They ain't like America's favorite team. The Cowboys should lower their tickets they ain't worth that much!
