Kitna Live Interview Tonight

The Cowboys' newest quarterback, Jon Kitna, will join us tonight with a live phone interview on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk, 6:30 PM on KFWD, channel 52. I plan to ask him his thoughts on Tony Romo's struggles, the troubling season of his former Lions teammate Roy Williams, and his once-heated trash talking with former adversary Bradie James.

Many in the media have questioned whether the Cowboys gave up too much to get Kitna. Last I checked, Anthony Henry was hardly a "shutdown" corner. Why do we lament the losses of Cowboys like Henry and Chris Canty when they're gone, but don't celebrate them when they're here? Henry and Canty were nice players, but hardly cornerstones of the franchise. The biggest loss those two players yield is depth. The Cowboys don't have much of it anymore...not at corner and not on the d-line. This can hopefully be fixed through the draft and by the continued strong play of guys like Orlando Scandrick.

As for Kitna, he's a huge upgrade over the aging Brad Johnson. Not a spring chicken himself (Kitna will turn 37 in September), Kitna still has the ability to step into a game and deliver, which Johnson was no longer able to do. He also knows receiver Roy Williams very well, responsible for 1300+ yards to him in 2006 and 12 touchdowns combined in '06 and '07. If anyone can help get Roy into a positive frame of mind for '09, it's his former quarterback. And who knows...perhaps Kitna will be throwing Roy the ball in a regular season game again soon.

And finally...I may have been the only member of the Dallas media who actually thought the Cowboys might go after Ray Lewis. It now seems I was wrong. I owe SportsTalk producer Josh Harvey a videogame...I lost the bet. Josh will soon be playing "Resident Evil 5", thanks to Jerry Jones's lack of willingness to get a future Hall-of-Famer.

Thanks, Jerry.
