Preparing for his team's game tomorrow night against San Diego State in the NIT, Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew stated, "this tournament means a tremendous amount to us and our programs." I hate to say it, but he's right. Some of you may scoff at the fact Baylor is only playing for the right to be "Number 66," considering they didn't make the NCAA field of 65. But this tournament is more than playing to be 66. It has put the Baylor men on the map. They won their first tournament game since 1950. They will get national TV exposure Tuesday night as they play live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. And after losing to Nebraska on senior night, the tournament allowed the senior Bears a home game and a win against college basketball perennial power, Georgetown. "It was the loudest I've ever heard the Ferrell Center. If it wasn't for this tournament our players and fans wouldn't have had that opportunity," Drew said on Monday, "our seniors will always remember that last game." Yeah, it may only be the NIT... But I'll be watching Tuesday night to see if Baylor can get one step closer to being "Number 66." Sic 'em Bears! |
