The girls basketball team from Argyle is headed to Austin this hour. A good portion of the school's 7-hundred or so students turned out to see them off. The UIL has no practice times available for any of the teams when the arrive in Austin, so to get a feel of a bigger arena, the Eagles stopped by TCU for a workout before heading to South Texas. At 19-and-14, Argyle doesn't have a gaudy record, but that's because they like playing bigger schools in Class 4A and 5A in non district games. Argyle is a Class 3A school. "I didn't see any team that had fewer than 20-wins," says head coach Steve Schmidt. "We're going in with 19, so I don't know if that's any kind of record, but it's definitely an eye opener." The Argyle girls won their first state title in 2006. They play Hidalgo Thursday afternoon, a team that is 37-and-2. |
