I had a chance to meet Sulphur Springs quarterback Tyrik Rollison who signed with Auburn today, and to think there was a time his mother didn't even want him to play quarterback. "It's a big position, it's a big spot," his mother Brenda said today. "I asked him, are you ready, because I felt like he had to carry the whole team, you have to be a leader." That was before he became one of the top recruited quarterbacks in Texas, and according to USA Today, one of the top five dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. Rollison says he has eased his mother's fears, especially after he lead Sulphur Springs to a Class 4A Division II State Championship. Says Rollison, "After seeing how good I've been and how my season ended, she's not jumpy about it now." By the way in his last game, he compiled 517 yards of total offense, running for three touchdowns and passing for four. The game will forever be remembered as the highest scoring 11-man championship game in Texas history. Sulphur Springs won 69-to-49. |
