The effort to get Jerry to quit as Cowboys GM

I had a nice visit last night with Robert Monarrez. You've probably never heard of him, but he wants to change the Dallas Cowboys.

His premise, and a lot of people agree with him, is that Jerry Jones is holding the Cowboys back.

The owner's insistence that he also serve as the team's general manager (and football guru) is the problem, Monarrez says.

So this 40-year-old season ticket holder, who has been a Cowboys fan since growing up in El Paso, created at his own cost, www.firethecowboysgm.com.

The website is all about galvanizing Cowboys fans to petition Jerry to let somebody else make the football decisions.

Monarrez likes Jerry the owner and the new stadium and the Super Bowl coming to town and all that, he just thinks he's overextended and not the best man to run football operations.

In less than a month, he's had more than 7,000 visitors and 1,000 people, as of last night, have signed his petition. He eventually wants to take it all to Valley Ranch and deliver it to Jones.

I'm not sure Jerry will listen, but it's worth a shot.

Here's my video story. Here's the text story. Here's the full interview with Monarrez. And here's Monarrez reading his letter to Jones.

HA, Jerry is just going to laugh at this guy.
It's Jerry's team, not the fans, but Jerry's. He doesn't owe any of you fans one thing. It's his toy to play with. You don't like it, don't watch or go to the games.

How stupid.

What makes Robert Monarrez think he knows what's best for the Cowboys? So getting rid of JJ is the answer, huh?

Does getting rid of JJ create leadership in the locker room? Does getting rid of JJ make the players play harder on the field?

JJ has actually ponied up the cash and assembled a team of talented players...at some point the Cowboy fan base has to hold the players accountable for the outcome of the games. Its not JJ's fault that TO stops running his routes. Its not JJ's fault that Flozell (offsides for life) Adams doesn't have the discipline to stay on sides before the ball is snapped. Sure, there are MANY more problems...at some point though...ITS THE PLAYERS FAULT!

What a douche bag this guy is...

I think the point he's trying to make is that it is Jerry Jones who picks the players.

I say this every day. Jerry Jones is disgusting. I won't spend another penny as long as he is the puppet master.

The influence that Jerry Jones has on this team, impacts the performance of the players on the field. Jerry Jones picks the executive, the coaches and the players. If one player did not perform well, JJ should work with his Head Coach to take the steps necessary to improve that player or change out the player. If we had one bad coach, JJ should fix that too. However, when you have a team where almost everyone is to blame for the complete year end meltdown that we experienced at the end of the season, it is time to look for answers further up the ladder. This is why Wade Phillips is taking so much heat and rightfully so. But how many more coaches do we need to go through before we can even win one more playoff game. All of these people are being picked by JJ and that's why it's time for him do the honorable and respectable act of holding himself accountable and stepping down as the GM of the Dallas Cowboys!

So Mr. Monarrez,

Just because you've been a season ticket holder, makes you the expert on how the Cowboys should be managed? Say vato, you need to get over yourself. JJ is the shot caller here and there isn't a damn thing you or I can do about it, not that I'd even try. JJ is the mastermind behind this empire and I know he's not taking the advise of a fan (short or long term). I'm sure Mr. Jones will get a good laugh out of this one. Perhaps you should become a fan of one of the west coast teams. You know, over where everyone thinks they know it all. You'd make a great fit!

Hasta luego,

Arturo

Over the last several year, since Jimmy Johnson, left the cowboys have fallen hard times. Mainly due to Jerry Jones' GM skills. He keeps waisting money on washed up playmakers instead of building on what he's got. I've been a Cowboys fan my entire life, but I can't get myself excited about them any more. Part of it is Jerry, part of it is too many clashing egos, and a lot of it is a weak coach like Phillips. There are more problems with this team then just Jerry, but his decisions are big part of it.

Arturo,

I definitely don't think I know it all and the fact that I've had season tickets doesn't make me any more knowledgeable than anyone else.

Your comments are exactly the reason I started the web site. You think I'm the only one that feels this way? I believe the grand majority of fans feel this way. The problem is we all sit back and complain, but take no action. You are 100% correct that Jerry Jones is not going to listen to a single fan like me regardless of how long we've been following the team, but if he thinks like you, that it's only one fan that feels this way, he's in for a huge surprise! If we can unite as a fan base and deliver our message to Jerry, he would at least hear us out!

Jerry Jones can and should ignore one fan, but he can't ignore thousands. He is an incredibly smart business man and I know he understands that the FANS are his livelihood. Who do you think is paying for that new stadium? Who's buying all of the Cowboys branded items? It's the fans! So don't underestimate the power of the fans.

You can give up and not even try, if that's what you choose, but even if he laughs at me, I'm still going to try. I have nothing to lose and all of the TRUE Cowboys fans might have something to gain.

I hope that I'm wrong about Jerry and that the Cowboys win the Super Bowl next year, but, if we end up like the Raiders and it's been 25 years since our last Super Bowl championship, I'm going to be able to say, "Hey, I gave it my best shot". All you'll be able to say is "man, I should have listened to that "vato" 11 years ago and maybe things would be different." That’s if you’re even still a fan.

In either case, I'll still be pulling for our 'Boys till the end of time and I'll always say....

GO COWBOYS!!

The rejection this is going to have will be fun to watch and I wont have to spend a lick on season tickets either.

When he moved to McKinney in 2006, he bought his Cowboys season tickets before his house.

"I'm in a great mood when they win and I'm in a really bad mood when they lose, so what's in it for me is that I really want the Cowboys to be the best team in the world," Monarrez says.

Well to buy season tickets before a house tells everyone somethings loose. It is totally irrelevant to this story and then in a good mood when they win and vice versa, I hate to be the people living and putting up with all that.

Just because he owns the team does not make him knowledgable about football. You need a football guy to be the GM. Somebody like Dan Reeves, for instance. Jerry's problem is he doesn't like sharing the credit a GM would get for taking the 'Boys to the Super Bowl.

For a different reason i would like to see change, but it wont happen and even any comment i make would be taken as some vague attempt to belittle the work Jerry has done. For all of us we alll have flaws and things that we may do or not do that will make another say, "hey, i can do that better" It is very easy to second guess and armchair quarterback anything, It is different to live it and do it> ONly thing that makes me sad is i will never be able to send my grandkids to a cowboy game just once as my father did for me and my brothers.. Cowboys against Greenbay,. that was a long time ago, $3 each ticket. I cannot even try to figure a way to take my grandkids.. So for that. I am upset. But as me another XfootballFan. Cowboys all my life.. I will now turn my back and i wont care. Much as Jerry will do with anybodies comments or feelings. Remember, It's not a game, It's a business. And the business is big money, not the fans or the critics.
