| Reeves fiasco shows Jerry Jones is the problem »
Turns out Dan Reeves isn't coming back to the Dallas Cowboys after all. Reeves and the Cowboys could not reach a deal on exactly what his role with the team would be. Reeves reportedly arrived at Valley Ranch Tuesday and by Wednesday evening was gone. The Cowboys never made an official announcement about Reeves and the public relations staff was not allowed to comment. Reeves was a running back for the Cowboys from 1965-69, a player-coach from 1970-72 and an assistant coach from 1974-81 before becoming a head coach in Denver, New York and Atlanta. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips worked for and replaced Reeves in Denver and Atlanta. Late Wednesday night Cowboys PR Director Rich Dalrymple released this statement: "We had two very good days of dialogue with Dan Reeves, and both the Cowboys and Dan had an interest in working together. By Wednesday afternoon, we were unable to reach an agreement on all of the details of a contract, and both parties were comfortable with the fact that Dan would not be joining the organization. Jerry (Jones) holds Dan in the highest regard as a friend and a tremendous contributor to the history of the Cowboys and the NFL." 21 CommentsLeave a comment |

This francshise is slowly turing into the Oakland Raiders....
And it's getting closer all the time. Joe Trahan and I were just talking about that exact thing.
SHOOT! I was really looking forward to that...we could have used him!
I'm sure ESPN will have fun with this! I bet Ed Werder is outside Valley Ranch right now ready to go live!
The one thing Cowboys fans have forgotten is the only thing that associates Jerry Jones and Superbowls is Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy was forced to leave by Jerry so that Jerry could be the face of the Cowboys and no one else. When it comes to winning Jerry is only willing to win if it means he can take all of the credit. If he can't, then winning is not something he is willing to do.....
The Cowboys could have used a class act like Dan Reeves. It's a shame they let him get away so quick.
If this is true, then Jerry Jones certainly is not doing his part by examining himself as he indicated at the end of this failed season. This is like when Jerry fired Jimmy Johnson part if you ask me. And since then (aside from Switzer gaining the leftovers from Johnson's hard work), when have we been back to the superbowl, let alone a post season win? If this story is infact true that the two could not come to terms, Jerry Jones is truly one stubborn fool who does not learn from his past mistakes, all because it seems that yielding some small amount of control of this team may bruise his huge ego and pride. If he truly cannot yield control over to those who may infact help this team lead to success (simply because he wants all of the self glory), then may all the failures of this team in the future fall upon him 100 fold. If the team is suppose to take from his example, how can we expect TO and others to change when stubbornness and inability to work with others starts with him?
If this is infact a true report, I am completely disgusted.
Ed Werder lives in a tent outside of Valley Ranch in case a "big-story" breaks.
Dan Reeves is a smart man. Why work for a dummy
like Jerry Jones, and not be allowed to coach
the team you were hired to coach. And then let
JJ allow you to take all the heat. Good Call
Coach Reeves.
This is just getting more and more ridiculous. I have tried and tried to support Jerry Jones when others haven't. I finally give. He is proving to be an egomaniac that can't see the forest for the trees. Unfortunately the only thing that will change things around for the Cowboys is Jerry's death. Then Steven Jones will take over. He seems to have a lot more common sense than his Dad. I hope I'm around to see it.
Jerry Jones IS Al Davis Jr. Sad, very sad.
Interesting offseason. Lots of talk about all sorts of changes - Garrett leaving? Phillips being harpooned? Reeves as consultant?
No to all of the above, and it's back to status quo.
Mr. Jones might do well to remember that insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Again, Jerry Jones is doing what he should do as the owner - make gobs of money. He's been successful, at least up to this major economic downturn. As General Manager, he is a dismal failure, even worse than the prior GM at Detroit. His ego has overcome sound judgment. I'm concerned now that it will be extremely difficult to find new "stars" for the Cowboys, either in coaching or on the field. Jimmy Johnson was a rarity and helped build a fantastic team. Barry was no slouch and doesn't deserve the lack of credit with this "Well, it was Jimmy's team he took to the Super Bowl". He kept the team together for a couple of years and did a good job coaching. Since then, the "GM" has made gross mistake after gross mistake and is driving the team to new depths. I'm one that wonders now how the owner will fill his new stadium game after game in this economy with this product. If he doesn't, we might get to see only 8 away games this year on TV. I still like the Cowboys, but I won't pay to see them in the new 51st State out in Arlington. I want far more bang for my buck. As a group (I guess I can say "Team"), they leave a great deal to be desired. Dan may have made the right career choice to stay away.
Jerry did not know what it was like to win when he bought the cowboys, then Jimmy introduced him to that feeling. he then thought he could do it alone. Well it sure has been along time since he has won a significant game. I believe it is time for real change here, a owner that puts the right personnel in place to create a TEAM! Hey Jerry get a frigging clue!!!!
Ok, now how many times are we going to get crap again from Jerry Jones. . . The only way the Cowboys can ever get back to the top Franchise Team in the NFL is to fire the General Manager and have the Owner Sell the team to anybody else.
Snoop Dog can do a better job of coaching than the current coach of the Cowboys.
Well, at least the new stadium won't get worn out next year because there will only be 8 games played in it because another playoff miss looks like it's coming our way. Jerry, pull your head out of your assets and realize that you ahve never built a franchise, Jimmy and Bill have provided you with any success. Hire a football guy you egomaniac!!!!!!

The Cowboys will never win another Super Bowl until we get a "real" coach. They have had 3 real coaches, Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson & Bill Parcells. Jerry Jones needs to wise up if he wants to win!!!
As bad as things are going people need to realize that bringing Jimmy back DOES NOT guarantee anything. The NFL is not the same as it was back in the early 90's. Free Agency is different .Remember the Boys made the Herschel trade a got goo-gobs of picks. So bringing Jimmy back is a huge IF.
