Rangers weekday games moving to FM dial

Here's something you've never heard before: Texas Rangers game on the FM dial.

For the first time in the team's history, some Rangers games will be heard on FM this season.

The Rangers and 105.3, "The Fan" (KRLD FM) announced a partnership where the station will carry the team's regular season weekday games (Monday through Friday) in 2009.

All Texas Rangers regular season games on Saturday and Sunday will continue to be carried by NewsRadio 1080 (KRLD AM), which had carried all of the team's games since 1995.

It was also announced that the Rangers' spring training radio broadcast schedule has been expanded to 18 games in 2009, 15 of which will be on 105.3.

"The Rangers are very pleased to make this announcement, and we welcome 105.3 The Fan as our new weekday flagship station," said team President Nolan Ryan. "The sound, quality, and strength of The Fan's FM signal will provide a new listening experience for our fans."

Ryan says it is important for the Rangers to make it easy for their fans to find the radio broadcasts.

"Because of the anticipation of some programming conflicts on 105.3 The Fan on the weekends, we decided to leave all of the Saturday and Sunday regular season games on NewsRadio 1080," he said. "That way our fans will know that weekday games will be on 105.3 FM, and weekend games can be heard on 1080 AM."

The Rangers are scheduled to play 110 weekday and 52 weekend games on their 2009 regular season schedule. It is possible that a handful of weekday games may be moved from 105.3 The Fan to NewsRadio 1080, and those changes will be announced in advance.

Play-by-play coverage for both stations will be led by veteran Eric Nadel for his 31st season and his 15th year as the lead voice of the Texas Rangers. Dave Barnett will be joining Nadel in his first season providing both play-by-play and color analysis on Rangers radio broadcasts.
