South Carolina police are, apparently, rounding up folks who were at the party swimmer Michael Phelps was at when that now infamous bong picture was taken. We've seen this type of witch hunt before, a sheriff looking to make his name. And that's a valid point. It's probably not the best use of law officers time to go knocking on doors of college kids who have have been at the same party as Michael Phelps and may have smoked pot or may have some buried in a drawer in their home. I get it. Especially when, according to their lawyers, the only thing investigators are interested in is getting info on Phelps. But at the same time, what's the point of having laws and not enforcing them? It's against the law in South Carolina to sell pot or to have it, which would include smoking it from a bong. Period. The sheriff probably sees this is a chance to make a point. No one is above the law, no matter how many gold medals you have. There's two legitimate arguments here. What's the line? When does justice become vigilantism? Either way I'm pretty sure Phelps won't be going any parties anytime soon. Well, if he's smart. And I'm not so sure he is. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

I think this would be a good chance for parents to let their kids know that Phelps is just a person with faults like anyone else. At least he wasn't charged with a crime againist someone else like theft or rape.
