Mavs situation not unique

We've heard all year long how the Dallas Mavericks can beat the bad teams, but lose to the good ones. Not a great sign if you're hoping the Mavs can make some kind of playoff run. But they're not the only ones in that situation.

I thought the Phoenix Suns were in a similar, treading-water situation, and after looking at their schedule, they are.

Overall Record:
Dallas 35-23
Phoenix 33-25

vs. teams above .500
Dallas 10-17
Phoenix 9-17

vs. teams below .500
Dallas 25-6
Phoenix 24-8

I don't think you take anything away from a team that takes care of business by beating losing teams. But it shows that the Mavs and Suns are what they are -- good enough to beat the bad teams, but probably not good enough to match up with the top teams in the West during a playoff series.
