Jerry Jones can right wrong with stadium name

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can right some wrongs, or at least one big wrong, when he names his new stadium.

It's unlikely he will get a big-name sponsor to put their name on his football palace in Arlington now because of the economy.

But this negative -- financially speaking -- can be used for one big positive.

He can name the stadium for Tom Landry, the only coach the Cowboys had in the 29 years before Jones bought the team.

"The man who fired Tom Landry" can do right by Landry now.

It won't make up for the fact that it became public before Landry was told he was getting fired that Jimmy Johnson would be the second head coach of the team, but it would be an appropriate gesture.

Tom Landry was the Dallas Cowboys for nearly three decades. It's time to remember the man in the hat as the Cowboys move to their new home.

Tom Landry Stadium sounds pretty good.

I think that makes the best sense. Tom Landry was better than all the other coaches put together. It would be great for Jones to do something right for a change.

I disagree. Recently, Jerry Jones has made the Cowboys look like the laughingstock of the NFL. It would sully Tom Landry's name to use it for the new stadium.

I am no longer a Cowboy fan due to how Jerry Jones treated Tom Landry and for the way his win at all cost behavior has destroyed all the Cowboys reputation stood for when Landry was in charge. Jones should have named the Irving stadium after Tom Landry WHILE Landry was still alive! Jerry Jones has done nothing but tarnish the institution that Landry built. Attaching Tom Landry to the team now is an insult to Tom Landry and all that he stood for!

John said:

Well, truth be told.... I wish Jones would sell the Cowboys to someone that not only cares about winning but cares to do it the right way (like Tom Landry did). The Cowboys of today are just a bunch of thugs, so I do understand the sentiment of not naming the new stadium for Landry as well.

I don't know what everyone's love affair with Tom Landry is all about. Barry Switzer had a better winning percentage with the Cowboys than Landry did. Barry Switzer had a better winning percentage with the the Cowboys than Jimm Johnson did.

I think Tom Landry Field at Texas Stadium is the best choice.

I love Tom Landry and would not mind the move at all. Let's not forget what a great move it was to bring Jimmy Johnson in though. To be honest, I think the real story on this puts the blame of this botched firing at the feet of Bum Bright. He was told that Jerry was bringing in Jimmy and should have told Coach Landry himself since he was the one selling the team.

John said:

And who fired Jimmy? Or whatever the heck you want to call it. Jones is way off and has no clue about what's right for the Cowboys. It's time for him to sell the Cowboys to someone that really cares.

Tom said:

Never happen. Jones is all about the money and his own ego. I'd see him naming the stadium after himself before he named it for anyone else. In the end, $$$$ will win out and Jerry will sell his soul to some big corporate sponsor.

BKing said:

He can't name the stadium after Tom Landy because at some point he will sell the naming rights. He wouldn't want the bad publicity of "selling out" Coach Landry again.

Name it for what it is, "Jerry's House"

I think Vally Ranch Stadium would be a good name.
Or how about the Blue Star Stadium ?

JWS, what turnip truck did you fall off of? Tom Landry's winning percentage was better on accident, than Barry Switzer's was on purpose. How does Barry inherit a winning team from Jimmy Johnson and have a better winning percentage than him? Barry was only coach for a year and a half, with on super bowl win from a team that Jimmy Johnson built. Barry (Pistol Packing) Switzer got buster at the air port for carrying a concealed weapon. Where did that put him? In the no-win column. He didn't coach the team to super bowl, they were already coached. He just stood on the side line and watch them play. Get your brains together before you speak of something that you don't know what your're talking about.
Think about it.

Tom Landry is one of the most important figures in the history of professional football and should
of not of been fired the way he was.
the most influential(non players) in the history of the Dallas Cowboys are CLINT MURCHISON JR. AND
FAMILY, BEDFORD WYNNNE, TEX SCHRAM, TOM LANDRY, TOM
LANDRY'S SCOUTS AND ASSISTANTS, BUM BRIGHT, and JERRY JONES.
we knew the teams personal was eventually going
to change nothing last forever except death and taxes we just hoped it would of happen in a more
dignified way. If you are sick, dying and there is no one to takeover the team you have to sell
i.e. Clint Murchison Jr. If you are lousing money left and right and the bottom is falling out of your profession (the oil business)and your other assets you have to sell i. e. Bum Bright.
I being a long time cowboys fan from the Duane
Thomas Roger Staubach period onward; have mixed
emotions about Jerry Jones is he a Godsend or
is he a scoundrel. I personally think that Mr.
Jones is both a Godsend and a scoundrel, he has done much good and bad for the team and organiza
tion. For the good he has brought the team three more Lombardy trophies and several winning seasons. He is responsible for Emmet smith and his success, and he is responsible for the Cowboys new stadium. For the bad he has allowed
bad attitudes and sportsmanship by some of the players, he has used bad business pratices to get around the NFL's salary cap, as a owner he cares only about his own ego and how he can make as much money as possible, he is responsible for players like Deon sanders, Terrell Owens, and Packman Jones (even the Okland Raiders; the team known for hiring renegade players won't touch these guys) and he is soon to be responsible for naming the cowboys new stadium Retarded Mickey Mouse coporation field instead of something dignified. Hey Jerry how rich is too rich?
Mr.Jones do the the right thing for a change because its the right thing to do!
One final thought/question hey Jerry when you
count all of your money do you have your own personal "DROOL BOY"? How about putting that on your tax return occupation Jerry Jones Drool Boy!
