Tonight will be a personal treat for me. Longtime Rangers play-by-play man Eric Nadel will join us on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk (6:30 PM, KFWD, Channel 52...replay at 12:05 AM). I grew up as a kid listening to Eric Nadel and Mark Holtz call Rangers games on the radio. Before Fox Sports Net and its first local entity (Home Sports Entertainment) in the early 80's, Rangers games were largely unseen on television. Diehard Rangers fans tuned in to listen to Nadel and Holtz do their thing...and they were brilliant at it. The two had an effortless chemistry and created a real "picture" of the game at Arlington Stadium. It truly was magical. When cable tv exploded in the 80's and MLB games began to be seen on a wider scale on television, many fans turned on their televisions but turned down the volume...and kept Nadel and Holtz turned on. Tragically, Holtz passed away after a battle with leukemia in 1997. Since then, Nadel's broadcast partners have come and gone, but he has remained a constant....probably the most familiar and reassuring voice Rangers fans have ever known. And in these crazed, steroid times, that takes on a greater importance than ever before. So be sure to tune in tonight....as Nadel reflects on his career ("A Page From Baseball's Past", if you will)...and looks to the future. It should be a fun night. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |
