A-Rod doesn't get pass for admitting steroid use, after saying he didn't

Alex Rodriguez admits he used steroids.

Now we're all supposed to forgive him, right?

Not me.

You don't get on national television a little more than a year after saying you never used performance enhancing drugs and then say you did and get a free pass.

A-Rod had his chance to come clean. Katie Couric asked him on 60 Minutes in December 2007 if he ever used steroids and he said he never did and never felt the need. After all, he was better than everyone else. Maybe he wasn't.

He thought it would never come out, so he lied. That's worse than just using the steroids in the first place.

The former Texas Rangers shortstop told ESPN Monday afternoon he used steroids starting when he came to the Rangers in 2001 as the highest paid player in league history at $252 million.

He said he only used the drug for a period of time with the Rangers, according to ESPN.

"I did take a banned substance. For that I'm very sorry and deeply regretful," Rodriguez said.

If he was being honest, A-Rod would say he was sorry he got caught.

This is another case of major athletes setting a poor example to the youth of America. Every day I face students who believe that if you apologize for the crime, all is forgiven. They honestly believe that everything is okay, as long as you apologize for it. Then, they can't understand why they are given consequences even though they apologize!!! OF COURSE THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES!!!! And yet, major athletes and movie stars are given a free pass every time they go on TV and say, "I'm sorry." I agree. This does not give him a pass. In fact, he was wrong TWICE. First, he used an illegal substance. Second, he lied. I don't need a third strike; he's out.
