The Texas Rangers may not change much how they perform on the field, but they can change how they look, at least how their uniforms look.
Today the team unveiled the new home, road, two alternate uniforms and batting practice jerseys for the 2009 season.
There are significant changes to both the home white and road gray jerseys and pants as well as to the blue alternate jersey and the blue batting practice top. In addition, the Rangers are introducing an alternate red home jersey and cap and new batting helmets for 2009.
"We are very pleased with the new look that our 2009 uniforms will provide," said Rangers President Nolan Ryan. "We will have some great alternatives with blue and red jerseys to go with our more traditional home white and road gray tops. We will have consistency with all of our uniform tops with Texas across the front. I think all fans will like the new designs."
For the first time, each of the Rangers' new uniform tops will be a cooler mesh fabric as opposed to the more traditional double knit design. Other significant changes include the same font for the lettering on not only the front but also the backs of all jerseys and new trim and piping on all the jerseys, including fronts, backs, sleeves and pant legs. The Rangers will also go from royal blue to black belts and shoes both home and away.
A description of each of the new uniforms:
(Watch video of the unveiling here.)

BELTS AND SHOES: Black for all uniforms home and road.
This is the second time in club history that the Rangers have had a solid red jersey as the club had an alternative red top for the 1984 season. In 2009 the club is planning to wear the red jersey at home on opening day, for all three games of the first home weekend series with Kansas City, April 17-19, and for all other Saturday home games.
The red cap, which previously was the Rangers' home cap from 1994-2000 and road cap from 1994-99, will be worn with the red alternate top at home. The team's regular blue cap will be worn with the white, gray, and blue tops. The blue jersey will remain an alternate top for both home and road games. The Texas flag patch will remain on the left sleeve of all game jerseys.
Why no "RANGERS" ?
They sssssssuuuucccckkkkkkk!!!!!!!!.
GO! DODGERS!!!!!!!!
I think management should worry a little less about what they look like and more about winning.
put some tight green shorts on'em w/pink knee highs tassale nipple covers and open toe chanclas, no caps.. tierras.
I wish the home white still said Rangers, but they look good to me and I dont have to get a new hat!
I think they are great, with the exception of leaving off "Rangers" anywhere. I mean the Astros play in Texas as well. Pretty refreshing to see and comment about what someone besides the wonderful Michelle is wearing!!!!!
same old same old......
SUBPAR uniforms, for a SUBPAR team.....
I've watched the Rangers since they first came to Texas...
I have never understood why they change the uniform style so often. One of baseball's greatest traditions IS tradition. Find a design and stick with it for more than just a few years. I personally favored the uniforms that were worn back in the Bobby Valentine/Nolan Ryan-as-a-player era.
PS: If the Rangers finish above .500, can we put their name back on the front of the home jersey?
The rangers have not done anything spectacular in years. Until they get a team that can actually win, why worry about their uniforms?
I'd love to see what a decent pitching staff would look like in Ranger's uniforms.
As bad as the Rangers are, they should just wear bikini brief swimsuits. At least this way, I'd be interested in watching them. They do have a few "sweet" players who would do good to prance around for fans.
Those are just as boring as the "new" STARS jerseys, including the 3rd...i mean 2-1/2...alternate jersey!
Rangers...lol....
Rangers? Who are they? Just a bunch of loosers, management should be spending the money like the Yakees do... getting better athletes!
They should change their name to dallas
I think it's stupid to get rid of the name 'Rangers' from all of their jerseys. At least make one of the alternate jerseys say Rangers. I guess the Yankees and Tigers don't have any jerseys that say their names on them either though.
