In case you missed it, New York Jets running back Thomas Jones decided to run his mouth earlier this week. "The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that's just reality," Jones told radio station Hot 97 FM. "If I were to sit here and say, 'Oh, man, it's OK,' that's not reality. I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it. If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game." Of course he was talking about NFL future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre's performance against the Miami Dolphins. Favre went 20/40 with 233 yards and 3 interceptions in a game that was deciding a playoff spot. The bottom line is, Favre tried to win. Let me first say that I'm not a Brett Favre fan. I think when you take the "I'm bigger than the game" attitude, you hurt your team. The funny thing is, I didn't see Jones trying to give Favre any type of running game. Jones had 10 carries for only 23 yards. Maybe if Favre would have had any sort of rushing attack, he would have not tried to force the ball. When you are the team's superstar, you try to win the game. Would Jones rather of had Kellen Clemens playing for a playoff spot? I don't think so. Favre tried to put the Jets on his back and get them to the playoffs. I can't fault him for that. That is what he was brought to New York to do. Jones calling out Brett Favre is like me calling out Dale Hansen. I'm in no position to and neither is Jones. Favre is probably one of the top five quarterbacks of all-time. Let me remind you something Thomas, you had four wins in 2007. With Kellen Clemens at quarterback this year, you would have maybe won five. |
