Texas Stadium, I Shall Remember You

The first Cowboys game I attended at Texas Stadium was Thanksgiving Day, 1979, when the Houston Oilers came to town. I remember friends of my parents asked if my brother and I wanted to join them, and we were ecstatic. Seats at the 50-yard line.

I brought a polaroid camera to the game and during one of Earl Campbell's two touchdown runs, I snapped a shot. All the instant picture revealed was a blue flash going past me. That's probably how the Cowboys defenders saw it too.

Eight years later, my parents purchased season tickets to the stadium. They have owned them ever since, but that will end next year. They can't afford the pretty penny Jerry Jones is charging for his new, glitzy park in Arlington. It's a shame...the Cowboys have been a part of my family for nearly thirty years. I'm not sure if Jerry realizes how many loyal fans he is pricing out. I'm not sure he really cares. Do you?

In any case, I saw an NFC Championship game there, Jason Garrett's amazing Thanksgiving game, and a host of others. Those of us who saw the Leon Lett snow fumble (also on Thanksgiving) will never forget it. I saw it on tv, but it still stung like heck. Maybe we'll remember the emotional losses more than the wins.

Texas Stadium was always larger than life to me, growing up a kid in Dallas. Over the years, it started to show its age and didn't seem to maintain its luster. But it was the only NFL stadium I ever knew, until I became a sports reporter and traveled around the country to new ones.

But Texas Stadium was where I went with my dad, my brother, and sometimes, my mom. It was a part of my youth I'll never forget. Those are memories you can never replace.

Then I got to the botton to field level and I tell u its a long walk to the field any way I stood their in aw of the fans cheering and clapping etc and I thought wow what a great atmosphere to be in and I get to see it all for free and get paid for it . The best part I will never forget is walking players to locker rooms and meeting the players and escouritng them to their cars. And also escorting the best cheerleaders in the league as well . Texas Stadium will always be my favorite place for football .
