Harris Trade Looks Like Flop For Mavericks

Devin Harris faced the Mavs for the first time this season since he was traded to New Jersey late last year.

The results...speak for themselves.

Devin had 41 points and outplayed his older "Kidd" counterpart. According to the Dallas Morning News, fans in New Jersey were chanting "thank you Cuban!", when Devin was pulled from the game with the outcome well in hand in the 4th quarter.

If that doesn't rub it in, nothing will.

I didn't like the trade even back on day one and I dislike it even more now. It's seldom a good idea in this young man's sport of the NBA to get older. Mark Cuban panicked in making the deal, trying to keep pace with the vastly superior Lakers after they made a key trade for Pau Gasol. It was a move that smacked of desperation, and one most insiders didn't think was enough to pass L.A.

Advantage, New Jersey. Advantage, rest of the league.

The Mavericks, though much improved from week one, are a mere shell of what they were when they went to the NBA Finals. They're older and not necessarily wiser. Kidd's still a solid player, but not the difference-maker he once was. He would have been a nice addition for a veteran team on the very verge of a championship, which last year's Mavs clearly were not.

Cuban has never shown any fear in making bold deals. But I'm willing to bet...this is one he'd love to take back.
