Should TCU fans be happy or sad?

Earlier today, TCU head coach Gary Patterson addressed the Mountain West Conference media in his weekly telephone conference call.

A few questions about the last game of the season this Saturday with Air Force did come up, but Austin Meek of the Topeka Capital-Journal felt he needed to address Patterson's job rumors.

Reporter: Wondered if you could take us through your initial reaction when that report came out a couple weeks ago indicating you were headed to Kansas State ...

Patterson: I'm not commenting on any other job stuff right now. The biggest thing we have on our mind right now is Air Force. As I said on my radio (appearance), which I'm sure everybody in Kansas got a chance to (hear), I was disappointed. I just had 65 guys fight their hearts out for a dream to get to a BCS game, and they lost it. The first thing they did when they woke up after getting home at about 4 in the morning was to find out the guy they fought for had taken another job. It was very disappointing to me that that happened because there were a lot of people that had put a lot of time and effort into this season. Most people that know me very well know that I would never do anything like that. Obviously, we had a lot of fires to put out.

Reporter: Just to clarify, does that mean there's no way you would consider taking the K-State job next season?

Patterson: I didn't ever say anything like that, because I haven't been talking about jobs or anything else. What I did say was that it was not the right thing for me. But I would say this to you: I have not been very ... I guess I've been disappointed in the media up in Kansas, because I feel like I've been one of their people, and I've felt like at least somebody would get a little bit of concrete evidence before everybody wrote and talked about it.

Now while some TCU fans look at this and get scared, I take this approach.

I personally don't think Coach Patterson is going anywhere. BUT, why would you take your biggest bargaining chip off the table if you are Patterson? When you go to TCU Athletic Director Danny Morrison for a contract extension and raise after the season, don't you want him to think you are a hot commodity and are ready to leave if you must?

Patterson has time and time again turned down BCS conference school's offers. He has his best recruiting class ever at TCU coming in next year. He should continue to get national respect year at TCU year in and year out. TCU is starting to really improve their facilities. CALM DOWN TCU FANS! Every time he doesn't comment or every time a reporter (Mercedes Mayer) writes a story about why he could stay or why he could go, you don't have to go into TCU defensive mode. It's going to be all right!

TCU is a joke.... they don't deserve a BCS bowl game. They don't play a tough schedule and get wacked when they play contenders.

Seriously? Have you all watched any TCU football?

Joe and Vidkid- You obviously have not watched TCU play? I admit they are not a Texas or Oklahoma, but far from a joke. They have by far one of the best defenses in all of college football.

Tough schedule? I'm not sure where you are going with this either? They have played 3 teams in the Top 15.

Ron,

Last time I went to a TCU game I was threatended with arrest if I accepted a free ticket someone near the ticket window offerd me!
I won't ever be back.

Last game I saw at their stadium was a high school play off game. Better quality of play
and larger crowd! Again, no one cares!

So you're saying this perennial top-25 team is not as good as high school teams?
