TCU sports information director Mark Cohen says there is "no truth" to a report that football coach Gary Patterson is the new coach at Kansas State. The report from a Kansas State sports website cites several sources that the school has hired Patterson, a K-State alum, as their head football coach. But Cohen says Patterson and his agent have had "no contact" with Kansas State. Patterson has been at TCU since 1998, first as defensive coordinator, then as head coach following the 2000 season. TCU (9-2) lost to Utah last night, 13-10, ending the team's hopes of making a lucrative BCS bowl game this season. K-State fired Ron Prince Wednesday. Patterson, a Rozel, Kansas native, is a 1983 graduate of K-State and began his coaching career as K-State as graduate assistant under Jim Dickey. Patterson is 71-27 as eight years as the head coach at TCU and has gone to a bowl game every year, but once. TCU proved that it did not belong in a BCS bowl when it was demolished by Oklahoma by four touchdowns. Most Big 12 teams would be undefeated if they got to play in TCU's sissy conference. No one would be speculating that TCU might be in a BCS bowl, if it were in the Big 12 South. TCU would be competing with Baylor for the cellar. I wish that your station would provide more clarification about strength of schedule.
Did TCU show it belonged in the Big 12 when they beat Texas Tech a couple years ago or Iowa State or Baylor twice?
Did OU not belong in the Big 12 in 2005 when they lost to Texas 45-12?
I guess Baylor, Kansas State, Colorado, Iowa State, Nebraska don't belong in the Big 12 either.
Of course none of that has anything to do with Patterson.
Patterson has done a fine job! I hope TCU can hang on to him. Penn St. should not even be in the top 10!
