I had this thought while watching Tampa pull out Game 7 against Boston Sunday night: the Rays are much more prepared to win the World Series now, after going through that Game 7, than had they finished off Boston in 5 games. Take pitcher David Price for example; he's the former Vanderbilt pitcher who didn't throw a big-league pitch until last month. He got the last four outs in that Game 7, against an experience playoff team that had already overcome a 7-run deficit a few days earlier. Price will be so much better off in the World Series thanks to that experience, as will several of his teammates. Had the Rays trampled the Red Sox and won the series 4-1, they might look a lot more dominating, but they wouldn't have the experience of playing in a tense, pressure-packed elimination game. |
