We have a solution to please both San Diego Chargers fans and Dallas Cowboys fans: Send Wade Phillips back to San Diego. Phillips (and his "Phillips 3-4" defense) was in America's Finest City from 2004-06 before being hired by Jerry Jones to coach the Cowboys. Today, Phillips' replacement as defensive coordinator in San Diego, Ted Cottrell, was fired by Norv Turner (a finalist for the Cowboys job) and replaced with Ron Rivera (also a candidate for the Cowboys job). Why not send Phillips back to San Diego? The Cowboys could trade their coach for Ron Rivera, actually. The fiery former Bears linebacker from the team's Super Bowl XX Championship team and former Bears defensive coordinator from their Super Bowl team 21-years later is the type of personality that could energize the Cowboys. Sure all of this is far fetched and not going to happen, but the interplay between the two franchises and their coaches is bizarre. San Diego wishes they still had Phillips and just a few days ago many of you were wishing the Cowboys didn't. |
