The Cowboys officially signed Keith Davis Wednesday and it's a move the team had to make. In the preseason the first team offense showed it could be prolific, the first team defense showed it can be stout. The special teams showed they had coverage issues. The Dallas Cowboys believe this team is special, elite. The fastest way for a team with the best talent in the league to lose games it shouldn't is by turning the ball over and with breakdowns on special teams. When quizzed by reporters about the coverage unit struggles in the preseason special teamers were quick to mention Davis. "Well a lot has to do with losing Keith Davis," said fullback Deon Anderson, a key special teams contributor himself. "He was the special teams captain last year and he contributed a lot to the special teams." In fact when Davis was out last season it was obvious the coverage units missed them. He is their heart, their spirit and their best guy at flying down the field and laying out a returner. When Bill Parcells signed Davis to play for the Miami Dolphins in the offseason it made sense to Davis because he viewed it as a chance to be a starter at safety. When that didn't happen it didn't make sense for either side for Davis to stay in Miami. It's the sort of twist that should work out perfectly for the Cowboys. On dynamic team with a Pro Bowl kicker and punter, a special teams ace was maybe the only missing link. Here is the official release from the Dallas Cowboys: The Dallas Cowboys signed free agent safety Keith Davis today. Davis signed with the Miami Dolphins following the 2007 season and went to training camp with them prior to his release on August 27. He re-joins the Dallas Cowboys for his sixth season with the team and in the NFL. For his career he has recorded 111 tackles in 68 total games with 22 starts on defense and added another 77 tackles on special teams. Davis originally joined the team as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2002. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
