SMU football started a new era today as Head Coach June Jones conducted his first fall workouts on campus. Jones starts with five quarterbacks, but he insists, once he finds his guy, he will stick with him.

"I told them last night that the best guy will play, and I try to hang with that guy as long as I can," Jones said. "That's kind of what I've done in the past. I've played that position and you don't want someone looking over your shoulder all the time."

Logan Turner, a red shirt freshman from Springtown, Texas, is the only one who's been through spring ball and has a little understanding of Jones' new system. For the other four, it's all new. That includes last years starter, Justin Willis from Denton, who was not allowed to participate in the spring practices, but is back trying to regain his starting position.

Jones says he will chart every throw his quarterbacks make between now and two weeks before the Mustangs play their first game. That's when he'll pick the top two.
