We're heading out in a few minutes to go to Rowlett's football practice, where we are going to do a story on Marquise Goodwin. He's a wide receiver and kick returner, but his real claim to fame is as a track athlete. Goodwin was the star of the 2008 State Meet in May (with apologies to the Class-A female athlete who won a state title by herself). Goodwin earned three gold medals, a silver and a bronze. He would have shattered the state record for the long jump, except that the breeze at his back was just a little too strong. His other golds came in the triple jump and the 4x100 relay. He got a silver in the 100M dash and a bronze in the 4x200 relay. This past summer, he competed in Poland, where he became the first American since 1992 to win the long jump at that meet. He also was part of the first-place 4x100 relay team. We went through a couple of file tapes from the 2007 football season and found some shots of Goodwin playing football. It's a small sample size, but what I saw was a football player - not a track athlete playing football. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Is this the kick returner who got laid out by the North Mesquite kicker, #9 Taylor Holley in the game last night?
