I was at the TCU-New Mexico football game Saturday in Albuquerque (for pleasure, not work) and found their fans to be quite colorful -- with their language (and gestures). While everyone on my trip here has been extremely friendly (offered a taste of green chilies by tailgaters, for example), inside University Stadium (yes, that's the creative name they came up with) something happens and it's not pretty. I have never had so many obscenities yelled at me or been told I was #1, quite like I was during the season opener between the Mountain West Conference foes. My crime? Wearing a purple TCU shirt. Much of it came when TCU was leading 16-0 at halftime en route to a 26-3 drubbing of the Lobos and it astoundingly continued post game. It was all I could do to not point at the scoreboard. Maybe the green chilies make the crowd a bit extra spicy. |
