August 11, 2008 Archives* Tomorrow the team will have a walk-through at 10:45 a.m. before departing for Denver. July 26 - 6,200 a.m. Head coach Wade Phillips says he and secondary coach Dave Campo talked about corner Adam 'Pacman' Jones coming off of not playing all last season and that Campo expected Jones to be rusty. He was. Phillips says the will probably play him more Saturday in Denver "until he feels comfortable and we feel comfortable." Anthony Spencer was held out of practice today. He banged his knee in Saturday's game and suffered some swelling. Phillips says the trainers just wanted to make sure and perform an MRI. "Our people didn't think it was a big deal," Phillips said. The Cowboys and Chargers were tied after the first quarter Saturday night, despite what appeared to be a dominating Cowboys performance. "Turnovers and penalties can get you beat even though you're playing well," Phillips said. Adam 'Pacman Jones summed up his play less than eloquently after practice today saying he "played like (expletive that starts with s and ends with t)." He's not far off, coming off of a year-long suspension by the NFL, the corner back looked rusty in both pass and run coverage. ...The former general manager of both the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins and now a television analyst, Charley Casserly, is at Cowboys Camp today. Now Jerry Jones isn't the best G.M. in Oxnard. ...Tight end Martellus Bennett is now on the practice field for the Dallas Cowboys in Oxnard, more than a half an hour after the rest of the team. No word yet why. ...
It seems like everybody is throwing the ball around today. The Cowboys are probably only going to keep two quarterbacks (Tony Romo and Brad Johnson) and, while they don't want to ever use them, the team might need an emergenc... Cowboys second year outside linebacker Anthony Spencer is also not at practice today. ...Despite fumbling a punt return Saturday night, Texas Tech rookie free agent Danny Amendola is sill on the team, in fact everyone is still on the team. No cuts have been made. NFL teams don't have to trim their rosters to 75 until Aug. 26 and regular season 53 until Aug. 30. ...Cowboys rookie tight end Martellus Bennett is not on the field again for Cowboys practice. The Texas A&M-ex missed practice last week because of what was described as a personal matter. ' ...This California weather can be difficult. We're suffering through 68 degree weather right now. The forecast high is 72. The players are warming up now ahead of the 2:45 PST practice. ...The big news out at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif. today is that the offense and defense have switched jersey colors. The offense is now in blue, while the defense is in white. The specialists are in blue too. In other uniform news: The players are wearing helmets, jerseys and shorts, no pads. ...The Dallas Cowboys have just one practice today, at 2:45. It should last about two hours and will be followed by a Wade Phillips media session. We'll be here for all the hard work, because someone has to do it. The bad news is just two days left in California. The team heads for Denver tomorrow and I head back to Big D. ... |
