Training Camp News and Notes: Aug. 5

* Tomorrow the team will practice at 9:00 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m.
* Head Coach Wade Phillips will conduct his daily media briefing at 2:45 p.m.
* Dennis Miller attended the afternoon practice.
* As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, 263 media credentials have been distributed for training camp.

Terence Newman one-on-one

Terence Newman will be Joe Trahan's guest Sunday night on Sports Special. The two just taped the interview. Here is a preview:

On his groin injury:

"I know first hand that this injury happened early enough in camp that there is no hurry to get back," Newman says. "I'm just letting it do its thing"

Phillips: Crayton like Andre Reed

Cowboys coach Wade Phillps compared wide receiver Patrick Crayton to Andre Reed from his days in Buffalo

"He'll be where he needs to be," Phillips said praising the team's number two receiver's precise routs.

Phillips: Ratliff and Spears to play DE, NT

Coach Wade Phillips says Jay Ratliff and Marcus Spears will both play both the inside and outside defensive line spots Saturday and likely throughout the season.

He says Ratliff was the best end on the team when he had to move full-time to nose tackle last season after Jason Ferguson's injury.

Phillips: Passing game looking good

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips talking to reporters after practice says he is pleased with the passing game and the young receivers.

He said the team is always looking for good players, but that the young receivers are continuing to progress.

A part of that passing game will be running backs Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Of course the team first needed a back up to Barber.

Alonzo Coleman making push

Alonzo Coleman, a second year running back from Hampton, just made a string of impressive runs in the team drill.

He has been explosive on outside runs and is making a push to be the third running back.

On one run to the left sideline he ran right past Jerry Jones who smiled ear-to-ear as he clapped.

Coleman was on the practice squad last year, but to make the team he'll have to also prove he can contribute on specia...



Tracy Phillips in Oxnard

Normally when a coach's daughter is at training camp it's not that big of a deal, but Cowboys coach Wade Phillips' daughter is a star too.

Tracy Phillips is an actress best-known for her role in Charlie Wilson's War.

She took in the Tuesday afternoon practice with her mother.

The NFL has been trying to clean up its image under new commissioner Roger Goodell, now he wants the fans to be good sports too.

Mort must be taking some time off from Brett Farve watch.

Practice underway, T.O. on the field

The Dallas Cowboys have just began their only practice for Tuesday. Terrell Owens is on the field.

It is another spectacular day in Oxnard, in case anyone sweltering back in Dallas was curious. Temperature is a perfect 72 degrees under mostly clear skies, only a few thin, high clouds.

One-a-day today for Cowboys

The Cowboys will suffer through only one practice today with temperatures in the low 70s.

The practice is scheduled for 2:30 to 4:30 here in Oxnard then coach Wade Phillips will talk to reporters.

That means there is time for me and intern Jake (who incidentally arrived at LAX this morning just before an emergency landing) to go by In-N-Out.
