'Feel free to cover me, Bradie'

6:46 PM Mon, Aug 04, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Those are the words Jason Witten yelled at linebacker Bradie James during a passing drill Monday afternoon.

Witten went right up the middle of the field, past James, to make a catch for what would have certainly been a big gain and maybe a touchdown.

Witten wants more from his defense.

Maybe Isaiah Stanback is getting this wide receiver thing after all.

The second year receiver made a nice grab in one-on-one drills leaping up and making a nice one handed grab.

SMU Head Coach June Jones Begins Search For Quarterback

5:37 PM Mon, Aug 04, 2008 |
George Riba

SMU football started a new era today as Head Coach June Jones conducted his first fall workouts on campus. Jones starts with five quarterbacks, but he insists, once he finds his guy, he will stick with him.

"I told them last night that the best guy will play, and I try to hang with that guy as long as I can," Jones said. "That's kind of what I've done in the past. I've played that position and you don't want someone looking over your...

Dream Job

5:25 PM Mon, Aug 04, 2008 |
Joe Trahan

People always tell me how I've got the dream job. "You get to watch sports for a living," they say. Well, there's a little bit more to it than that (not much, but don't tell my boss!). I must admit, though, when I walked off the plane in Burbank today - I thought about people who say that. Adjusting to temperatures 35-degrees cooler than Dallas will be tough, but someone has to do it. Maybe I do have a dream job.

In all seriousnes...

Aaron Chimbel

Cowboys head coach Wade Philliips literally held court Monday afternoon in Oxnard.

The team holds their news conference on a tennis court in Oxnard.

Terrell Owens sat out of practice and Tony Romo is taking it easy.

"We try to monitor everybody certainly," Phillips said. "You have to watch older players"

Phillips is also impressed with defensive tackle Tank Johnson, who joined the Cowboys after a league mand...

Phillips on returning to San Diego

4:55 PM Mon, Aug 04, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The Cowboys play in San Diego Saturday night, marking a return for coach Wade Phillips.

Coach Phillips joked that since he's been so many places they're all special.

But it was San Diego where he was defensive coordinator before becoming head coach in Dallas.

"It's the recent past," he said "I know a lot of the players and coaches."

"Get your popcorn ready!!!"

And with that - or something like that - Miss Price announced her arrival in Oxnard. Miss Price is the self-proclaimed, and sometimes player-proclaimed, number one ...

T.O. sits out again

1:23 PM Mon, Aug 04, 2008 |
Walt Zwirko

From the Associated Press:

For the second day in a row, Terrell Owens wasn't an active participant in practice at Dallas Cowboys training camp Monday.

Owens strolled onto the field about 35 minutes after the start of the morning session, when the team was in shorts without pads for the first of two practices scheduled Monday. It wasn't clear if T.O. would take part in the afternoon practice.
