Luis Yanez Hearing Delayed

Duncanville's Luis Yanez, who was removed from the U.S.Boxing team in late June, still doesn't know whether he will be reinstated.

A hearing was scheduled for today but was delayed until Friday morning. The reason is that the board, which was scheduled to conduct the hearing, didn't receive all the information it needed from Yanez in time to make a decision today.

Yanez was removed from the U.S. Olympic team after he failed to report for training in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Pan American Games gold medalist is 19 years of age and asked for a hearing, as allowed by the USOC.

National team coach Dan Campbell kicked Yanez off the team after he skipped three weeks of residency training without ever getting permission or even telling USA Boxing where he was.

Yanez hopes to have a decision by noon on Friday, but the board could take up to 48 hours. He fights in the light flyweight class.

Watch Yanez's interview with Dale Hansen from last week.

I feel this kid should NOT be permitted to go to the Olympics. When I saw him on channel 8 news with Dale Hansen, he was doing some kind of hand sign up by his face, which to me appeared as Gang related. Someone with that mentality should NOT be representing the USA.

Nice going Betty. Let's kick another kid to the curb. Remember he's 19 and will make mistakes. Where do you think most fighters come from? Rich families in Highland Park?T hey come from the worst streets in our cities. Boxing is one way out for them, not to mention one of the greatest stages in the world (olympics). This can very well change this young mans life forever. This is besides the hundreds of hours and fights he had to win to get this far.

I have a feeling that the requested information takes the form of substantiating Yanez' story. Any bets on whether it will ever surface? He can watch on TV like the rest of us. Maybe the four years of maturity he may gain will better prepare him for the 2012 games.

Unless he provides proof that he was doing what he says he was doing he should remain off the team. If he was taking care of his sister PICK UP THE PHONE and let the coach know. Even so did neither he or anyone else advising him realize there was going to be reprecussions for his actions? Responsibility people. All probably would have been forgiven with a phone call. Unfortunately I do think he is lying just because he didnt answer any of Hansen's questions.

RIGHT ON Betty! Regardless of where boxers come from, they have to adhere to rules and ALL sign the Code of Conduct! Yanez is not a 3 yr old, he is old enough to do an interview from a night club supporting his friend and saying he is the "king of Dallas" while he was suppose to be too busy taking care of his sister and her kids, if he had time to do an interview from the club, he could have found time to call his coach(s), furthermore he KNEW they were scheduled to go to Argentina and he had a plane ticket and eveything, USA Boxing does not throw money away on expensive airline tickets! He has dragged other team mates into his mess and lied by saying he is the team captain............please! Since when does being an Olympian mean "get rewarded for BAD behavior"? This was NOT a Dan Campbell decision, there were more people involved, yet everyone wants to blame the Coach

Sometime you have to walk a mile in some shoes to find what is going on in his/her life. So for all of you that are making stupid comments, you know what they say in opinion is like a an a-- h--- everyone has one.
Robert you are so right, good for you. betty and lisa are clueless as to where these kids come from.

He was absent from training to care for his sister and HER KIDS in a FAMILY EMERGENCY, for heaven sakes!!!

Good God, Can't the stupid Olympic Committee see the big picture here? I would be PROUD to have this kid represent the United States - What better message can we send to the world than his tremendous devotion to family? How many of their other Olympic athletes have their priorities straight?

Besides, the kid doesn't need much training - He has won COUNTLESS amateur matches ALL OVER THE WORLD since I've known him.

He's been working very hard toward his goal since he was knee-high to a grasshopper - It boggles my mind every time I hear of his last series of conquests, but he is always so polite and unassuming - NEVER boastful at all, almost embarrassed to tell us about his latest win - yet he is very passionate when it comes to the subject of boxing.

I've known this kid and his trainer Dennis for years, because when he wasn't boxing he used to work as a waiter in Dennis's restaurant in Lewisville where I eat. Sometimes I still see him in there. He always greets us with a big smile and bends over backwards to serve us. This kid is super.

All this shows me that his character runs deep and his devotion to the sport is beyond reproach - but as I said, he has his head on straight, and family takes priority. The USA will be better off with him than without him. Give the kid a chance.

Betty has it right.I could not see why Dale would even give this poor excuse of a role model the desent time of day much less tv air time.Every time he made that gang sign it made me sicker and sicker until i just puked.I feel sorry for Dale. Does he need his eyes examined or did he just not see that puke of a kid give those signs? He should have stopped the interveiw right thin and imbarased the kid on tv because he sure made Hansen out to look like a chump, and he was using Hansens air time to do it.Hansen wake up! Are do you just want to go along with the signs of the times?
