Darvis "Doc" Patton Looks Ready For Olympic Run

I watched the morning workout of Darvis Patton, a former TCU sprinter in Arlington today, and was impressed. Of course when you know this guy just ran a 9.89 and a 9.84 at the Olympic trails a few weeks ago, it's easy to be wowed.

Patton is a 1996 graduate of Lake Highland and seems to be getting better with age. After all, he failed to make the relay team of his high school track team at a time when Marcus Stiggers was gathering all the headlines. Stiggers went on to play college football at Colorado. But now at age 30, this may be his last chance at another Olympic medal.

Patton won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and will have two chances to medal his second time around. "Once every four years, you only have one shot, you only get the top three to make the US Olympic team so to be going to my second team, its a huge accomplishment," says Patton.

He will compete in the 100-meter event and the 4x100 meter relay. And with Tyson Gay running a wind assisted 9.68 at the trials, Americans should have a great chance to bring home a number of medals from the track and field events.
