UTA golfer wins top college tourney

Bobby Massa, a junior golfer at UTA, won one of the region's top collegiate tournaments.
Massa beat University of Arkansas golfer Will Osborne, 3 and 2, for his sixth win in match play to capture the tournament championship Sunday at the Cotton States Invitational in Monroe, La.

Massa joins former PGA golfers Hal Sutton, David Toms and Bill Rogers as a winner of the event.

General to oversee NBA refs

Next time Dick Bavetta makes a bad call he may have to drop and give Ronald L. Johnson 20.

Johnson was named the NBA's senior vice president of referee operations today. He just retired as an Army major general after 32 years as a combat engineer.

He was hired to oversee officiating after the Tim Donaghy scandal. Donaghy is accused of misconduct, including helping the league manipulate playoff results in 2002 and '05.

Wimbledon: Serena joins Venus in semifinals

Now it seems the Williams sisters are just toying with the competition.

Serena Williams beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals at Wimbledon.

She joins sister Venus in the semis.

The eight-time Grand Slam champion, looking for her third title at the All England Club, will face Zheng Jie in the semifinals.

Rangers two games above .500, finally

I thought it would never happen. Mired in mediocrity for much of the past month, the Texas Rangers finally improved to two games above .500 Monday night and did it against the hated Yankees in the Bronx.

The Rangers were previously 0-5 when they could go two games over even.

Wimbledon: Williams sisters final closer with Venus win

It's looking more and more like we will get an American and sister match up at the Wimbledon finals 4th of July weekend.

Defending champ Venus Williams advanced to the semifinals after beating Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-3.

The four-time champ will face Elena Dementieva in the semifinals.

Venus' sister, Serena, plays 19-year-old Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland today.
