Jason Witten one-on-one with Hansen

10:11 PM Thu, Jul 31, 2008 |
Marjorie Owens

From Ted Madden in Oxnard:

Just a little while ago, we finished shooting Dale's one-on-one interview with Cowboys tight end, and real good guy, Jason Witten.

One thing he said during the interview that stuck out to me was this: "We have a lot of all-star names, but the team has to be first." It sounds pretty cliché, but earlier this week, when Hansen interviewed linebacker Bradie James, he said almost the exact same thing: tha...

".....the boy from Texas Tech."- Jerry Jones

2:31 PM Thu, Jul 31, 2008 |
Nick Zelinski

With the departure of Terry Glenn, the Cowboys receiving corps looks a little different this year, even after not having Glenn all last season. By all accounts Patrick Crayton is the number 2 followed by a clump at 2- how ever many receivers they keep. That list includes Sam Hurd(my pick for #3), Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanback, and Danny Amendola.

While driving home from working out this morning, Dola(as we called him at Texas Tech), w...

Players React to Quake

4:01 PM Tue, Jul 29, 2008 |
Sean Hamilton

I just made a walk through the Cowboys compound here in Oxnard, Calif. to see how others experience of the California Quake went. Just about everyone I spoke with said they felt it and it seemed to be most players' first experience of an earthquake.

Greg Ellis tells me that he was doing an interview with former Cowboys VP of Player Personnel , Gil Brandt, and his chair started shaking. Ellis said, "That was pretty cool... It was my f...

Early Cowboys season predictions

2:36 PM Tue, Jul 29, 2008 |
Nick Zelinski

With training camp only five days old with today being number six, I find myself(while part of the crew back in Dallas) longing to be in Ox-"nurd"(as Jerry Jones would say). Not only would the weather be a nice break from this 100 degree plus heat, but just to see some football and contact in person would be nice. But, that will not come for a couple of more weeks, so let's have some fun. Not that I am a known analyst, but everyone likes to th...

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman

during a play and twisted his leg awkwardly.

Phillips doesn't consider the injury serious.

10:32 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to contract terms with first-round draft
choices Felix Jones (RB, Arkansas) and Mike Jenkins (CB, South Florida) late Friday.

The team does not release the terms of player contracts.

Both players are expected to report to camp Saturday, although it is unlikely they will be available for the morning practice.

Hansen: Terry Glenn sign of NFL times

9:39 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Dale Hansen

It is just another example of what a business this game is. Cowboys paid Terry Glenn a lot of money last year when he couldn't play because of a bad knee and they didn't want to do it again.

Glenn says he was willing to sign a split contract, get more if he played... less if he didn't. But the Cowboys decided they didn't want to do that either.

This is the reality of the NFL game with a salary cap. You can't pay good players...

First Day of Practice

9:33 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Dale Hansen

Just another day in paradise and now it really begins. Cowboys have their 1st practice in California today but not before the typical Cowboys opening cermonies.

Los Lonely Boys sang the national anthem and there wasn't even a game.

A couple thousand fans lined the fence waiting for their favorite players to show up.

The 1st day was just helmets and shorts, there's very little hitting in any NFL camp anymore. But tha...

Cowboys waive Terry Glenn

6:05 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

WFAA crews in Oxnard, Calif. report the Dallas Cowboys have waived receiver Terry Glenn.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday the team planned to let him go after weeks of a dispute over whether the 34-year-old would sign an injury waiver.

Glenn missed all but the final game of the regular season last year after two surgeries on his right knee.

He didn't want to sign a waiver that would pay him just $500,000 of...

Cheers for players, coaches at Cowboys camp

5:07 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

From WFAA's Sean Hamilton in Oxnard:
Tony Romo got probably the big cheer when he made his way to the practice fields..

Terrell Owens was one of the last on one field, but still got a huge round of applause.

And former Cowboys head coach Dave Campo, now the secondary coach, got a big cheer as did current head coach Wade Phillips.

Jones is optimistic they will be able to reach deals with both players soon.

Report: Terry Glenn reaches agreement with Cowboys

4:16 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Update: Stephen Jones not commenting, says Jerry Jones is working on it and he was on the practice field about 4:30 central Friday.

ESPN is reporting that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn has reached an injury settlement agreement with the team.

What it means is that Glenn will be in training camp and that if he were to be injured the team would not owe him all of his $1.7 million contract.

Previously, the te...

Cowboys add quarterback

2:02 PM Fri, Jul 25, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Hold your horses. It's not likely this latest reported signing is going to have an impact, heck he probably won't even make the team.

But the Dallas Cowboys signed former Princeton quarterback Jeff Terrell.

His best hope is to make the practice squad. He was in training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs last year before playing one game for the Austin Wranglers Arena team.

The Cowboys have three other quarterbacks in ...

Presser Notes

7:05 PM Thu, Jul 24, 2008 |
Sean Hamilton

Wade Phillips just said "the Giants won it all" but was quick to point out that his team only lost 3 games in the regular season last year and the Giants went 4 and 4 their last 8 games.

Jerry Jones said that HBO's reality show "Hard Knocks" will not affect the team's preparation at all.

Jerry paid homage to Tex Schramm, saying he had a wonderful way of making his team popular and Jones has tried to learn from Tex.

Jerry Jones opened the State of the Team presser saying "its great to back in Oxnerd." Not sure why he calls it "Oxnerd" instead of "Oxnard."

The Dallas Cowboys waited 44 minutes on the runway at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport before departing just after 2 p.m.

The players, coaches and staff boarded their charter to Point Mugu Naval Air Station, just south of where they will train in Oxnard, Calif., shortly after 1 p.m. and sat on the runway from 1:18 p.m. to 2:02 p.m.

A problem with some ground equipment prevented them from leaving on time.

Felix Jones and Terry Glenn no shows as Cowboys depart

From George Riba at DFW Airport:
Cowboys rookie running back Felix Jones and veteran wide receiver Terry Glenn were not on the plane scheduled to depart DFW shortly after 1 p.m.

Dallas Cowboys camp storylines to watch

11:41 AM Thu, Jul 24, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Here are some of the top storylines to keep an eye out for during the Dallas Cowboys training camp:

1. Adam Jones. Will the suspended corner be reinstated and will he start?

2. Roy Williams. Will the oft-criticized safety be cut as former personnel guru Gil Brandt suggested could happen?

3. Anthony Henry. What will happen to last year's starter at cornerback, will he move to safety to replace Williams or keep his starti...

NCAA gets it right, reinstates Trinity grad's scholarship

6:10 PM Wed, Jul 23, 2008 |

Maybe some humans actually do work at the NCAA.

James Bradshaw, who played on Trinity High School's state champion football team last year, has had his college football scholarship reinstated.

Earlier this week the NCAA ruled that his scholarship was not valid because of the way his eighth grade Spanish class was coded on his transcript.

Bradshaw's family says the NCAA reinstated the scholarship this afternoon, just in...

Kevin Millwood always injured

1:56 PM Wed, Jul 23, 2008 |
Nick Zelinski

Rangers are currently playing in Chicago to finish up their series against the White Sox. The game is 3-3 going into the 3rd.

Kevin Millwood has just left the game with another "apparent" injury. He wasn't wxactly lights out, and he hasn't been very good since the Rangers decided to pay him $11 million per season.

Just wondering, does anyone else seem to notice that when he struggles, he always ends up hurt? I'm just playing d...

Gil Brandt: Cowboys Roy Williams could be cut

10:20 AM Wed, Jul 23, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Gil Brandt is a legend for helping build the Dallas Cowboys from expansion team to America's Team.

Now the 29 year Valley Ranch vet, who has made a post-Cowboys career of analyzing football, has a juicy tidbit that has been a bit buried.

Brandt said this week that Roy Williams, the Cowboys' Pro Bowl safety, could be released if he doesn't play better during the team's training camp, which starts Friday in Oxnard, Calif.

Cardinals want to keep Cowboys fans out

6:43 PM Tue, Jul 22, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

As the East Valley Tribune in Arizona puts it, "The Cardinals are trying to 'protect the nest.'"

So the team is making fans who want to buy ticket to the Dallas Cowboys game Oct. 12 to also buy tickets to the Cardinals pre-season game Aug. 7 vs. New Orleans.

"Our goal is to have as many Cardinal fans in the stadium as possible," the paper quoted a team spokesman as saying.

If you remember before the Cardinals moved to t...

Josh Smith a Mav?

3:42 PM Tue, Jul 22, 2008 |
Nick Zelinski

You know it's the off-season when the Dallas Mavericks are involved in numerous trade rumors. Last week, there was speculation Ron Artest would be next to don the white, blue and black. All the Mavs would have to give up in exchange was Josh Howard and most likely Brandon Bass.

Well, another week and another rumor. This time it's Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith. This is another deal that would involve Josh Howard. We all heard after H...

Sun Belt joins with bowls you've never heard of

11:51 AM Tue, Jul 22, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

There are 34 bowl games scheduled for the end of this year and the beginning of 2009, up one from last year.

First, that is way too many and means 68 teams will play in bowl games, more than half of 119 eligible schools.

The real sign of the excess is the Sun Belt Conference announcing it has signed agreements with three bowls, giving the worst conference in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) a total o...

UTA infielder toughest in NCAA to strikeout

11:10 AM Tue, Jul 22, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

UT Arlington senior infielder David McLeod is the Toughest Batter to Strikeout in the nation.

He was named to the honor by the NCAA for the 2008 season.

McLeod, a four-year letter winner, struck out only five times in 200 at-bats during his senior season, for a 40-1 at-bat-to-strikeout ratio.

The infielder from Houston was named Honorable Mention Southland All-Conference as a senior.

McLeod never struck out mo...

The Dallas Stars have acquired a former top pick of the Los Angeles Kings.

The Stars traded for right wing Lauri Tukonen, a first-round selection (No. 11 overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft by the Kings.

Tukonen has skated in five career NHL games with the Kings.

The Stars sent left wing Richard Clune, Dallas' third-round selection (No. 71 overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft, to Los Angeles.

Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips Defends His Quarterback

3:29 PM Mon, Jul 21, 2008 |

Not that he needs to be defended, but Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips took the extra step to backup quarterback Tony Romo as a hard working, focused quarterback.

Speaking to about 650-youth middle school and youth coaches, Phillips drew a nice response when he said Romo hasn't missed a workout in two years that he's been the head coach.

"I don't know anything about Jessica," Phillips said, "So don't ask me anything questions...

Cowboys should be glad to see Shockey go

2:35 PM Mon, Jul 21, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Roy Williams can take a big sigh of relief.

The Cowboys safety should be among the Dallas players glad to see New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey traded to the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints will get second- and fifth-round picks in the 2009 draft.

How many times did Shockey just find Williams in space and burn him for a touchdown? I can't count that high.

And it's a good move for the Giants who did jus...

Aaron Chimbel

Finally, six months after the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 playoff loss to the New York Giants the Cowboys head to Oxnard, Calif. for training camp this week.

It should be an eventful camp. The Cowboys, by pretty much all prognostications, are a favorite to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa February 1.

That what you expect from a team coming off a 13-3 season with 13 returning Pro Bowlers and the addition of another Pro...

What's notable about the signing is that the Cowboys customarily don't si...

Mavs should trade Howard for Artest

9:37 AM Fri, Jul 18, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The Dallas Mavericks' Josh Howard and Sacramento Kings' Ron Artest are the same age, 28.

Both have been All-Stars.

Last season, they averaged very similar statistics, Howard with 19.9 points, 7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game and Artest with 20.5, 5.8 and 3.5. If you total them with steals and blocks per game Howard has 30.3 and Artest 32.8. That's what I like to compare, their total contributions. Artest has an edge. He als...

I watched the morning workout of Darvis Patton, a former TCU sprinter in Arlington today, and was impressed. Of course when you know this guy just ran a 9.89 and a 9.84 at the Olympic trails a few weeks ago, it's easy to be wowed.

Patton is a 1996 graduate of Lake Highland and seems to be getting better with age. After all, he failed to make the relay team of his high school track team at a time when Marcus Stiggers was gathering all ...

I don't exactly get it, but ESPN's ESPY Awards won't be broadcast until Sunday night despite the ceremony being held last night in Los Angeles.

Maybe ESPN was too busy broadcasting the replay of the All-Star Home Run Derby, but the night after the All-Star game, which is virtually devoid of any sports, would seem like the perfect night to broadcast the awards. Instead, ESPN waits until baseball is back from the break.

At any ...

News 8's Jim Douglas has an interesting story about James Bradshaw, a standout lineman form Trinity High School's state championship team. (Read it and watch video here.)

90-year-old running down records

4:28 PM Wed, Jul 16, 2008 |
Ted Madden

I did a story on Orville Rogers, a 90-year-old Dallas man who runs competitively. In March, he set a couple records for his age group at a meet in Boston, in the 800 meter run and the mile. Here are a few things about Orville I couldn't fit in the story that were interesting:

Orville was named after Orville Wright, one of the Wright brothers.

He was a pilot for Braniff Airlines for 32 years, until his retirement in 1977. Branif...

Stars announce part of schedule

2:22 PM Wed, Jul 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

It's a little bit of a tease. But if the muggy July weather has you thinking hockey, the Dallas Stars can at least give you something to look forward to.

The Dallas Stars announced the team's pre-season schedule today, including four games at American Airlines Center in Dallas. They will play seven pre-season games in 2008 in all.

Also announced is that the Stars' four-day training camp will open September 19 at the Frisco Dr ...

Yanez sees wrong, goes to Olympics

11:22 AM Wed, Jul 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

In the end, the Luis Yanez story follows exactly what your parents always tell you: When you make a mistake, fess up.

Yanez, the 19-year-old boxer from Duncanville, will go to Beijing after all as part of the U.S. Olympic boxing team.

But here is the key: Yanez agreed to pay a fine, undergo sports counseling and make a public apology. He also will personally apologize to his teammates and keep from making public remarks on th...

Rangers' Young hero of All-Star game, again

12:51 AM Wed, Jul 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

No matter how many times Michael Young came up in the All-Star Game Tuesday night and stretching past 1:30 Wednesday morning in New York you, or I at least, kept thinking Young would win it. He's simply clutch.

I just didn't think it would take to the 15th inning.

Two years ago Young was the MVP of the game when he hit a game-winning triple. This time it was a sacrifice fly that gave the Texas Ranger and the American League a ...

Cowboys right to get Hamlin deal done

2:06 PM Tue, Jul 15, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Ken Hamlin will be a Dallas Cowboy for years to come and that is the right move by owner Jerry Jones.

Aside for the obvious benefit of nullifying his off-season designation as the franchise player (which would give him a one-year contract at $4.4 million dollars, the average salary of the league's five highest-paid safeties), which he was not happy about, it provides stability at a position that has plagued the Cowboys since Darren Wo...

Hamilton wins fans, but not contest

12:45 PM Tue, Jul 15, 2008 |
Ted Madden

I watched the home run derby with some friends and fellow sports fans last night, and a few things stand out...

After his second home run in the first round, the one that hit the wall behind the right-centerfield seats, the crowd and players went so crazy that the contest was stopped down for a few moments. Again, this was after his second home run.

When the first round ended, players from both leagues surroun...

Hamilton shows power, adds to story

10:17 AM Tue, Jul 15, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The Josh Hamilton story just keeps getting better.

A walk-off home run for a Rangers win over the Angels last week, then Monday night he electrified Yankee Stadium with a barrage of long balls in the first round of the All-Star Home Run Derby.

He was in a different league, seemingly at will powering towering blasts to right field, the upper deck and where few balls have ever been hit.

He hit 28 total home runs in the...

Boxer Yanez loses appeal, still mysterious

12:19 PM Mon, Jul 14, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

USA Boxing Judicial Committee has declined to reinstate Duncanville boxer Luis Yanez to the U.S. Olympic team.

There has to be more to the story then Yanez has told. It just doesn't seem right that USA Boxing would kick off a key member because he wanted to help his sister while she battled substance abuse.

Sure he there was some call confusion, but something just seems off.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in...

Billy Packer out at CBS

10:55 AM Mon, Jul 14, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

One of the most controversial and outspoken television personalities is out of a job.

After 27 years as the lead college basketball analyst for CBS, Billy Packer is being replaced by Clark Kellogg, who has been at CBS for 16 years. He'll call his first Final Four with Jim Nantz in April.

It's a bit of a shocking move, but maybe it shouldn't be. As much icon as lightning rod, Packer is both what you want and what you hate in a...

Aaron Chimbel

Do you have a dog that is ready for the spotlight?

Well Texas A&M is looking for a new pooch to replace Reveille VII, who just retired as the school's mascot.

Reveille has been a tradition in College Station since 1931. This seventh dog is the fifth consecutive collie to hold the job and the new one will maintain the status as the highest ranking member of the Corps of Cadets, as a Five-Star General. She's also known as "the f...

Kinsler getting national MVP love

2:50 PM Sun, Jul 13, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Ian Kinsler just extended his hitting streak to 25 games in the Texas Rangers Sunday game against the Chicago White Sox.

That's impressive, but Kinsler may very well be on his way to earning MVP honors this season. There are a lot of interesting story lines on the Rangers this season. Of course Josh Hamilton's evolution from drug addiction to All-Star outfielder and Milton Bradley is having a career year as an outfielder/DH and doing i...

White Sox coming to town

3:52 PM Fri, Jul 11, 2008 |
Ted Madden

The good news is, the Rangers are at home. The bad news is, they're playing another first place team. This is a tough stretch for the Rangers leading into the all-star break, but so far, pretty good. That split with the Angels was a good one, considering who the Rangers' starting pitchers were in each of those four games.

The Sox have been playing really well. After sweeping the Cubs a couple weeks ago, they swept the Indians, split fo...

Mavs sign McLeod, Singleton

3:51 PM Fri, Jul 11, 2008 |

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard Keith McLeod and forward James Singleton.

McLeod (6-2, 190) was a member of Montepaschi Siena, the winner of the Italian National Championship in 2007-08. In four games, he averaged 4.5 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 14.4 minutes in Euroleague play. The four-year pro has played with four NBA teams (Minnesota, Utah, Golden State and Indiana) and holds career averages of 5.5 points, 2.7...

Aaron Chimbel

DALLAS (AP) -- The Dallas Mavericks have re-signed former Texas
A&M standout Antoine Wright.

Terms of the deal with the guard weren't released Friday.

Wright played two seasons with New Jersey before he was acquired

Kidd to Dallas.

New Jersey took Wright with the 15th pick in the 2005 NBA draft.

Wright last...

SMU's June Jones interview

12:39 PM Fri, Jul 11, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Good Morning Texas is not usually a place to talk football.

Today, though, new SMU head football coach June Jones stopped by to talk to his long-time friend and high school football teammate Gary Cogill.

Jones faces a big task to get SMU football back to respectability. But if any coach can, it's probably Jones. He turned around a hapless Hawaii program that was strapped by poor facilities (although, the beach is a pretty good...

Startling cancer diagnosis for Olympian

It's the best and worst at the same time.

U.S. swimmer Eric Shanteau learned just a week before the Olympic trials that he has testicular cancer. Then the 24-year-old goes to Omaha, Neb. for the trials and beats a former world-record holder to earn a spot on the Olympic team and a trip to Beijing.

"I was sort of like, 'This isn't real. There's no way this is happening to me right now,"' Shanteau told The Associated Press. "You...

Luis Yanez Hearing Delayed

3:04 PM Thu, Jul 10, 2008 |
George Riba

Duncanville's Luis Yanez, who was removed from the U.S.Boxing team in late June, still doesn't know whether he will be reinstated.

A hearing was scheduled for today but was delayed until Friday morning. The reason is that the board, which was scheduled to conduct the hearing, didn't receive all the information it needed from Yanez in time to make a decision today.

Yanez was removed from the U.S. Olympic team after he failed t...

Football players behaving badly

Debate about Michael Young's steal

1:41 PM Thu, Jul 10, 2008 |
Ted Madden

I've heard some discussion on the radio about whether Michael Young's steal in the 9th inning last night was a good idea (Quick recap - Rangers were down 4-3, 2 outs, Young steals second with Josh Hamilton at bat). The debate centers around whether Young should have stolen the base, which opened up first base and gave the Angels the option of intentionally walking Hamilton (or pitching around him). Hamilton came through with a 2-run homer to w...

Hamming it up at Rangers game

11:06 AM Thu, Jul 10, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

For eight innings the Texas Rangers were just not quite good enough.

They weren't good enough to hang with the A.L. West-leading Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Then Jamey Wright pitched a dominant eighth and ninth and in the bottom of the night Ramon Vazquez got a pinch hit walk and later scored on a Michael Young single, then Josh Hamilton delivered. A gusty 5-4 win. We use gutsy a lot with this team.

It was somewhat...

I just heard new Maverick Gerald Green on the Ticket with Norm. He's saying all the right things, about being humbled and hungry and ready to "re-launch" his career. Watch my story here

Marion Barber at TO's camp, reluctant star

4:42 PM Wed, Jul 09, 2008 |
Ted Madden

Terrell Owens is holding his annual football camp at Duncanville High School, and a couple of his teammates were out there today -- Marion Barber and Sam Hurd. Hurd was great, working with kids to get off the line of scrimmage as they begin a pass route; he's a charming and easy-going guy. Barber is different; it's almost painful how shy he is. For a man who runs as violently and aggressively as he does on the football field, he is the opposit...

Now the San Diego Chargers star running back has been named to the 75th Anniversary All-Sun Bowl Team.

TCU beat USC 28-19 in the 1998 Sun Bowl. It was the Horned Frogs' first bowl win in 41 years, dating back to a 28-27 victory over Jim Brown and Syracuse in the 1957 Cotton Bowl.

As part of the deal, the right-handed pitcher receives an invitation to the 2009 big league Spring Training camp in 2009.

Rangers win behind Harrison's masterful debut

10:17 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Matt Harrison wasn't supposed to start for the Texas Rangers Tuesday night.

He wasn't supposed to make his major league debut in a crucial game against the A.L. West-leading Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

He wasn't supposed to have to wait until 8 p.m.

And he surely wasn't supposed to be as dominating as he was.

In seven innings of maneuvering around an Angels lineup that torched Luis Mendoza for eight runs i...

Sweet 16: $4.25 million for 16-year-old

5:36 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The Oakland Athletics are changing the game of baseball, again.

First it was Beane-Ball, for the thrift winning way of A's general manager Billy Beane. This time Beane is doing it by signing 16-year-old pitching prospect Michael Inoa with a $4.25 million bonus.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander is considered the top prospect in The Dominican Republic and much of Latin America and is scheduled to play in the Dominican Summer League.

Harrison to make first start for Rangers

3:20 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

It's another difficult pitching matchup tonight for the Texas Rangers.

In their second of four games with the A.L. West-leading Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, the Rangers will start Matt Harrison. It will be his big league debut.

Left-hander became a Ranger in the Mark Teixeira trade.

Harrison, 22, is 6-3 so far in a season split between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma.

Torres won't swim 100 at Olympics

11:50 AM Mon, Jul 07, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

It's probably the best story leading up to the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

At 41-years-old, swimmer Dara Torres will be the first American to compete in five Olympics.

Her first was in 1984, before 2004 gold winner Michael Phelps was even born.

She won gold in L.A. in '84 and has nine total medals.

Now she says she won't compete in the 100-meter freestyle in Beijing. The 50 free will be her only individual ev...

I can remember not being able to sleep as a kid waiting for "breakfast at wimbledon." I thought it was the coolest thing not having to wait for one of the premiere sporting events in the world.

But in recent years, the american men haven't done much on the grass courts of the all england club. Andy Roddick tried to carry the torch, but it slipped away. So, interest in tennis has waned in our country. But it doesn't matter where you...

It sure seems like Joaquin Benoit is doing a lot of walking. The Rangers relief pitcher who has been erratic this season came in to the sixth up one run. He proceeds to walk the eighth and ninth batters.

Problem is the Rangers have few other options this early in the game. Just called up Warner Madrigal is the only other fresh arm available.

Then a turnaround. Benoit got Johnny Damon to fly out, then Derek Jeter to grou...

I eagerly watched as Dale Hansen interviewed Duncanville boxer Luis Yanez Tuesday night on the News 8 Update.

Yanez, the captain of the U.S. Olympic team, was kicked off by his coach after failing to show for training.

The 106-pound light flyweight was booted for skipping three weeks of training without getting permission or even telling USA Boxing where he was, national team coach Dan Campbell claims.

I thought it would never happen. Mired in mediocrity for much of the past month, the Texas Rangers finally improved to two games above .500 Monday night and did it against the hated Yankees in the Bronx.

The Rangers were previously 0-5 when they could go two games over even.

What's more is the Rangers did it with pitching, including a bullpen that has overcome poor performances in recent weeks and a closer who has gone from e...
