The last man to win Wimbledon before Roger Federer won't be winning it this year because he lost to Federer. Federer beat Lleyton Hewitt of Australia 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 Monday. The Five-time champion advances to the quarterfinals. Venus, the defending champ going for her fifth Wimbledon title, beat 18-year-old Russian Alisa Kleybanova 6-3, 6-4. The Williams sisters are also now poised to meet in the finals. Second-seeded Jelena Jankovic lost in straight sets Monday, leaving the women's draw without its top three ranked players. It's the first time none of the top three women have reached the quarterfinals in a Grand Slam tournament in the Open era. No. 1 Ana Ivanovic and No. 3 Maria Sharapova were upset last week. Jankovic's lost to Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-3, 6-2. Playing with her left knee heavily strapped, Jankovic was never in serious contention against the 60th-ranked Tanasugarn. Now let's see how much we see of the Williams' father, Richard. |
