The SMU Mustangs will be seeing a lot of their regional rivals in the years to come. SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini announced future series with Baylor, TCU and North Texas. Navy and Stephen F. Austin also agreed to play the Mustangs. The Battle for the Iron Skillet will continue between SMU and TCU. Games are scheduled annually through 2017. The two teams have played annual since 1915, except for six seasons. They did not face each other: 1919, 1920, 1925, 1987, 1988 and 2006. TCU lead the series 40-39-7. SMU and Baylor will begin a six-year series with a Sept. 10, 2011, game in Dallas. Baylor will also play in Dallas in 2013 and 2015, while SMU will travel to Waco in 2012, 2014 and 2016. SMU and UNT will resume their series in 2014 with a contest in Denton. The four-year deal will bring UNT come to Dallas in 2015 and 2017; the Ponies will head back up I-35 in 2016. After SMU and Navy finish their current four-game, home-and-home series in 2011, the series will resume in 2015 with another four-game, home-and-home series. SFA will make the first of two trips to Dallas on Sept. 5, 2009, and will make a return trip to Dallas in 2012. |
