Former UTA Mavs filling up Major Leagues

Seven. That's how many former UT-Arlington baseball players are coaching or playing in Major League Baseball this season.

It's a pretty impressive group. Troy Hillman, long considered a Rangers managerial candidate, is manager of the Kansas City Royals. His bench coach, Dave Owen, was the first Mavericks player to reach the Major Leagues in 1983 with the Chicago Cubs. Steve Foster is the bullpen coach for the Florida Marlins.

And four former Mavs standouts are playing for major league teams, including Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher John Lacke, who became the first rookie pitcher since 1909 to win a World Series Game 7 in 2002.

Also in the majors are relief pitcher Mark Lowe of the Seattle Mariners, outfielder Hunter Pence with the Houston Astros and first baseman and outfielder Daniel Ortmeier with the San Francisco Giants.

Infielder Ryan Roberts is playing in the Rangers organization and saw time in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays.
