Maybe C.J. Wilson just isn't ready to be a major league closer. Coming in to a tie game last night, he proceeded to blow the 2-2 game, in a 5-2 Rangers loss that again puts them below .500. It almost looks like he can't control himself. He has to make the play. Instead of letting catcher Gerald Laird field a bunt up the first base line he tried to make the play spin and throw the runner out, rather than let Laird make the play with his momentum, running towards first. It was over after that. "Apparently if I would have hit him, he would have been out," Wilson told The Dallas Morning News. "If I would have made a good throw, he would have been out. If I would have let Gerald take it, he would have been out. I did pretty much everything wrong out there. "So tell your kids at home, bean the batter when he's running to first base and he's out." Wilson's ERA is now 4.50 and he is 0-2 to go with two blown saves, he does have 14 saves on the season, but many have been unnecessarily close. Of course it's not like the Rangers have a lot of other choices right now either. |
