June 18, 2008 ArchivesDay 2 at Cowboys mini-camp was less eventful than day 1, but it almost had to be. Still no T.O., Ken Hamlin or Terry Glenn. For those who were actually on the field, Pacman Jones is splitting time with incumbent starting cornerback Anthony Henry, while Henry, as coach Phillips promised, is getting a look inside lining up against tight ends in some packages. Henry did make a nice play to break up a pass intended for tig... SLIDESHOW: Cowboys mini-camp day 2 ...Per coach Wade Phillips, starting guard Leonard Davis left practice due to cramping. ...Fourth-year guard Joe Berger is working with the first team offense for Leonard Davis, who left the afternoon practice. Still waiting official word on his status. ...One of the major story lines during mini-camp and training camp for the Cowboys will be Anthony Henry. Hell be asked to play more inside on tight ends and in passing drills he made a nice break up of a would be touchdown in the back of the end zone on Tony Curtis. He got an enthusiastic cheer from secondary coach Dave Campo: "Good hands, good hands." Miles Austin, one of the young receivers coach Wade Phillips has been praising at mini-camp, just beat top cornerback Terence Newman for a touchdown in team drills. Tony Romo led Austin perfectly across the end zone. Newman waved his arms in disgust. ...Pro Bowl guard Leonard Davis just gingerly walked off the field with a trainer. It's unclear what the issue is, but at 6-6 and 354 pounds there is a lot of man to be hurt. Details as they become available. ...Anthony Henry started 10 games for the Cowboys last season, while battling injury, but with the team acquiring Adam 'Pacman' Jones his starting job may be in jeopardy. "Certainly our tight end is a weapon, our receivers I think they proved last year that collectively they can be a weapon." Glenn was out for the first 15 games last season with a knee ... It's saying something when you call an NFL player big, but the Cowboys rookie second round draft pick looks massive in shorts and helmet. Tight end Martellus Bennett is listed at 6-6, 260. He made a nice catch over the middle in team drills. Looks like he is athletic for such a massive man. ...Maybe there was enough drama to last three days of mini camp the first day. VIDEO: Day 2 morning camp report. ...Day 2 of Cowboys mini-camp can't be as eventful as day 1, right? To recap: Two Pro Bowlers from last season were no shows. WR Terrell Owens for an undisclosed family matter and safety Ken Hamlin because he is unhappy being tendered the $4.33 million as franchise player, he wants a long-term deal. If it wasn't enough that another starting (at least has been) WR, Terry Glenn, wasn't at camp, later in the day brought a squabble wi... Sometimes the team with the best record does win it's sports championship. It didn't happen for the New England Patriots, but the Boston Celtics were dominating in the regular season with a gaudy .805 winning percentage (66-16) and were just as dominant Tuesday night defeating the LA Lakers 131-92. It was laughable. All those Kobe haters are smiling today. And what about that Western Conference dominance? Three of the past fi... |
