June 2, 2008 ArchivesBirdville High School has been playing baseball for eight seasons and this year for the first time, they earned a trip to the State Tournament. They Face Waxahachie on Wednesday in Round Rock. After spending an hour or so on their campus, my favorite part became the team mascot, a real live Hawk living at their stadium. "It's a Red Tail Hawk," according to Head Coach David Hatcher. And apparently, the bird has become Birdville's good... NFL Commission Roger Goodell says Pacman Jones can participate in workouts and preseason games with the team, but has yet to clear the controversial and talented cornerback for the regular season. ...We are two days away from the high school baseball state finals, starting Wednesday in Round Rock. Four teams from the DFW area are going in class 4A and 5A: Waxahachie will play Birdville in the semi-finals; Southlake Carroll and Plano West could face each other in the championship game.
