Jason Kidd's arrival was the end of the end for Avery Johnson. With a team struggling to perform, Mark Cuban spent a ton of money to create change. For whatever reason, Johnson couldn't tap-in to the best Kidd could offer, and I think a lot of it has to do with the way Johnson was asking him to run the offense. Asking Kidd to shoot the ball more is like asking a marathon runner to pig out on choclate all day. Not gonna happen. The way the Mavs play isolation basketball, and then trying to find the open shooter on the weakside beyond the arc doesn't suit kid. He's not a shooter. Never has been, and he's still going to make the hall of fame.
