Disclaimer: I'm writing this before I've read or listened to much national media recation to the game last night.... Second disclaimer: The title of this blog is a nod to Jim Nantz, and not to be taken seriously. With that said, I'm curious to know where Mario Chalmers' game-tying 3-pointer ranks among the all-time great shots in NCAA championship game history. I was thinking this morning, Wouldn't it be great if a columnist/historian would write an article BEFORE the championship game, in which he or she chronicled the best moments in the history of that game. For example, the writer could include a paragraph for each of these categories: greatest individual performance in a championship game, greatest comeback in a championship game, biggest shot.... etc. That way, when something special happens in the title game (like last night's shot by Chalmers, not to mention last night's Kansas comeback), we would all have something to refer to, something that would (hopefully) prevent the kind of hyperbole that usually comes when we get caught up in the moment. Again, I haven't yet read any articles (I'm about to start surfing), so I don't know whether there have been any claims that Chalmers' shot is the biggest shot in Final Four history. I'm not arguing that it's not -- I'm just saying I haven't researched all of the big shots in championship game history, so I have no frame of reference. And I'd like to think that big-time national college basketball writers and analysts would consider the same thing before deciding where to rank Chalmers' shot. One more note on the game -- poor, poor Chris Douglas-Roberts and Derrick Rose. Those guys will probably go on to have great NBA careers, but much like Chris Webber and his infamous time out, they will forever be attached to those missed free throws. Thoughts, reactions to the title game? Now's the time, and this is the place. You, too, kan participate in our blog! Get it ... "kan"..... |
