April 2008 ArchivesFor the second straight year, the Mavericks left the American Airlines Center having been eliminated from the playoffs in the first round. While the speculation begins as to who will become the Mavericks next Head Coach, we know one man who we can strike off the list, Mavericks Guard Jerry Stackhouse. Asked whether the next Head Coach of the team is already on the staff, Stackhouse replied. Jason Kidd's arrival was the end of the end for Avery Johnson. With a team struggling to perform, Mark Cuban spent a ton of money to create change. For whatever reason, Johnson couldn't tap-in to the best Kidd could offer, and I think a lot of it has to do with the way Johnson was asking him to run the offense. Asking Kidd to shoot the ball more is like asking a marathon runner to pig out on choclate all day. Not gonna happen. The ... A light moment on a tough day for the Mavs at their expense. Today at the AAC, I was among some 35 media types all gathered around, waiting for Donnie Nelson to come out and talk to us. A P.R. person came out and told us that Nelson would be out in a moment, make a statement, and take no questions. One of the photographers then quipped from behind the cameras... "Statment, heck I been waiting for this team to make a s... No shocker after the Mavs first round playoff exit for the second year in a row, but Avery Johnson was fired as coach Wednesday. Did he deserve to get fired? Well, the team had gotten progressively worse under him. From the Finals collapse two years ago to the great regular season last year followed by th... Game 5 In-game report: The Mavs trailed by 11 in the 1st quarter, came back to tie it. Then down 15 at the half, they cut the lead to 6 in the third quarter, so they're showing some fight, but not sure if they've got enough bullets in the gun. David West is hitting key bucket after key bucket, shooting 10-15 for a game high 23 points through three quarters. Not looking good for the MFFLers. ...
It was one of the lighter moments in the interview room after the Maverick game 2 loss to the Hornets. New Orleans all-everything guard ...
Please excuse the first person and personal reference in the headline, not to mention the nickname usage. Couldn't resist the alliteration. At any rate both Josh Howard and I agree, the key to game 2 of this se...
I realized this while watching Game 6 of the Stars-Ducks series, Sunday night, and I've been thinking about it for the past couple of days. Let me say first that I didn't grow up around hockey, and I do... I just spoke on the phone with George Riba in Boston. His time was 3:54:54. And his wife Maggie finished with a 4:08:05. Way to go George and Maggie!!! ...
It was without question, the hardest race I've ever run. I ran it nine years ago, and didn't remember the rolling hills. ...
Remember that Saturday Night Live classic skit, with Will Farrell and Christopher Walken??? They were in a recording studio working on the Blue Oyster Cult Classic "Don't Fear the Reaper" and Walken kept saying, "I n...
Hope you had a chance to see our Mavericks playoff special Friday night. Our NBA analyst Bob Ortegel made a great point, one that I've on the same page with. Besides Dirk and Josh Howard, the key to this series may very w...
So the Rangers 14-inning game Wednesday night was a marathon right? Well it's nothing compared to the Rockies-Padres 22-inning, 6 hour and 16 minute game.
What a good sports night we had Thursday. The Dallas Stars won a game, the importance of which can probably not be overstated. Lose, and they're tied 2-2 going back to Anaheim, and all that great work they did in the first...
Because he was able bring Dallas back to life, there seems to be a consensus around the...
The good news is the Rangers broke their five-game losing streak. The bad news is it took them 14 innings and they nearly blew another late lead (5-2 in the eighth). Still they showed some resiliency. They also ... This why the Mavericks traded for Jason Kidd. A triple-double, the 100th of his career, and a comeback win over their first round playoff foe, the New Orleans Hornets, in the regular season finale. Maybe everyone wrote the 2007-08 Mavericks obituary too soon. Maybe it did just take some time to gel. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. But as was the case last year, the only thing that matters in this season for the Mavs is how they do in th...
We went out to Plano West today, to do some interviews with the baseball team. That story will air Sunday night on High School Sports Special. They are doing something that baseball teams just don't do -- go undefeated...
Dale Hansen will host the show with Bob Ortegel providing indepth analysis. Joe Trahan will as...
Tonight, the meaningless regular season comes to an end (isn't that what we heard last spring, when the 67-win Mavs were knocked out in the first round?). This is a big game for the... The Cowboys Released their regular season Schedule today for 2008. There is one Monday night game on the Schedule, three Sunday night games and one on a Saturday night. DALLAS COWBOYS 2008 SCHEDULE You might want to keep an eye on how many goals are scored in tonights game three of the first round playoff series between the Stars and the Ducks. It seems fans have been asked to wear black like the teams home jersey. To ensure that it's dark in the stands of the American Airlines Center, 15,000 black T-Shirts will be handed out as well. This sounds all fine and dandy except that the puck is black as well. So when the puck ends u... I never get why coaches, up three, are so reluctant to foul. We saw it last night in Kansas' improbable win over Memphis to win the tournament. It's simple math. They make both shots, they're still down by one and you get the ball. Sure they could miss the second shot, but with only a couple seconds left time is on your side. It's chaos... the team that is down doesn't have time to set up a play... they have to make a lame shot attemp... Disclaimer: I'm writing this before I've read or listened to much national media recation to the game last night.... Second disclaimer: The title of this blog is a nod to Jim Nantz, and not to be taken seriously. With that said, I'm curious to know where Mario Chalmers' game-tying 3-pointer ranks among the all-time great shots in NCAA championship game history. I was thinking this morning, Wouldn't it be great if a columnist/hi...

That noise you heard early this morning coming from Tarrant County wasn't the cars on the track at the Texas Motor Speedway, but former Cowboys Wide Receiver Michael Irvin screaming for his life! Irvin got in a ...
I know many of you in the Cowboy Nation held a grudge against Tony Romo for his Mexican getway with gal-pal Jessica Simpson last season. But what about Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart? Thanks to... Mavericks Forward Dirk Nowitzki usually doesn't talk on game day, so when he addressed the media after practice on Wednesday, it was obvious he was still in pain. "It's still sore in a couple of movements," Nowitzki said, "I don't really know what to tell you. It's not great. That's all I can say." The tone in his voice was the most depressed I've heard him sound since the Mavericks were kicked out of the NBA finals by Miami. Grante...
Don't expect to see anything like the photo above from these 2 multi-millionaires anytime soon. Perhaps you've heard about the rift between Rangers/Stars owner Tom Hicks and Montr...
I got a kick out of Stars Head Coach Dave Tippett today when he was asked to comment about comments he made during an NHL teleconference on Monday when he said opening the NHL playoffs on the ...
Nolan Ryan will be beefing things up a bit at The Ballpark in Arlington. As it turns out Ryan's first love wasn't baseball but as it turns... I've been away from work the past couple of days, but I didn't miss Sunday's college basketball. And like most of you, I was rooting hard for Davidson to pull off the upset. But their loss to Kansas is actually going to make this Saturday better for all of us. We have a pair of incredible match-ups, with all four number one seeds going to San Antonio. The Davidson story would have been great, but the not as great as the basketball we're going ... |
