I'm not exactly sure why I kept watching when the Mavs were trailing the Lakers by 25 points in the 3rd period. I guess I just wanted to see if they'd have any heart. They proved what I thought I knew. Avery Johnson won't allow his team to be quitters, and the comeback they put on was stirring. But did you notice where number 2 was when the Mavericks made most of their headway and got back into the game. It was sans Jason Kidd, and that's not good. And the numbers since he's been wearing a Maverick uniform follow suit. Teams with losing records - no problem! The Mavericks are 9-0. Teams with winning records - big problem! The Mavs are 0-6. Its a tale of 2 teams. The best of times and the worst of times at the worse time! The Mavericks have a chance to turn things around with the Celtics and Spurs up next - but something needs to change - and real quick like. Any of you out there doubting the move??? 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

I am not doubting the trade at all. I know the Mavs need to start winning games against playoff teams sooner or later. Hopefully sooner rather than later and when I mean soon I am talking tomorrow nights game against the Celtics would be the perfect time.
The reason the Mavericks made the trade for Kidd is come playoff time they will have the veteran point guard to run the offense and give them that mental toughness this team as been lacking in the playoffs. What matters the most is the playoff games and if Mavs can't get out of the first round then I will be doubting the trade.
Remember last season the Mavericks had a unbelievable regular season, they were the favorite to win the championship, and then they lost in the first round. Seeing as the Mavericks are not having as good of a regular season as last year and are definitely not the favorite to win it all this year. I think Mavericks like the underdog role more than being the favorite. Two season ago when the Mavs made the Finals, I don't think anybody expected them to make it that far, unless you were a Mavericks homer. In the Finals they were the favorite to win, there is that word again, and then look at what happened they lost to the Heat in six games. Don't ask me why it seems they like the underdog role more than the favorite role. I just know I will be judging the trade by how well the Mavs do in the playoffs this year, anything short of a championship, and the Kidd trade is a failure.
The sad reality is that the Mavs lack what it takes to do any kind of damage in the playoffs let alone win the NBA championship. The chemistry is lacking. The focus is lacking. I lose count each game I watch of watching the offense consist of 1 on 5 basketball, forced shots, and settling for jumpers instead of trying to attack inside.
Jason Kidd, while talented, isn't the answer. Who, besides Dirk, can the Mavs count on to regularly make a jump shot? Terry, Stackhouse, Howard, and Bass are all streaky shooters at best. If the Mavs were able to get someone like a Ray Allen before the season started I think we'd see a better return on investment. But hindsight is 20/20.
The window of opportunity for winning the NBA championship is usually open only for a short time and I do truly believe the Mavs lost their chance in 2006. If the Mavs do hang on and make the playoffs, which is uncertain at best, they're almost assured a first round exit because any team they face is superior.
I don't know what the cure is but it needs to be found. This current roster is ill-equipped to deliver a championship to Dallas. I pray that the Dallas Mavericks do not turn into the NBA equivalent of the Chicago Cubs when it comes to winning championships.
