Premier League English Football (soccer)

Most Americans have no idea what Premier League is. We have enough sports to follow without adding new foreign sports into the mix, right?

Wrong. Even Nascar has its share of foreign drivers entering the sport every season. Believe it or not there are a surprising number of American footballers playing in England's highest levels of competition in Football. The only way Americans will follow a sport like "soccer" is if Americans can thrive and multiply in the most talented clubs in the world. That being said, I don't think any of the following teams have Americans in any prominent positions on the pitch, for now.

I am here to inform or just simply entertain sports fans about English Football.

Currently the League table stands as follows....(Thursday, March 20, 2008)

Manchester United 70 points
Arsenal 67 points
Chelsea 65 points
Liverpool 59 points

It is no coincidence that the top four teams in the Premier are the some of the most notable and most entertaining clubs in the world. The Spanish League (or La Liga) and the Italian League (Serie A) have a few teams that certainly compare if not surpass the forementioned top 4 English teams.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Villareal in Spain all considered the best in the world according to those in Spain.

AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, and Juventes also make their claim for best in the world at Football.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the Germans. Bayern Munich is a fantastic side and could make the argument for their place atop the Football Kingdom. However, every league has their bottom feeders and Germany might have the largest pool of bottom feeder teams that consistently get thrashed by teams like Munich.

I am leaving out a bunch too. Brazilian teams are super talented, but the very best Brazilian players compete in the English, Spanish, Italian, German, and American pro teams at a high price too.

I could go on and on but I will ask this question.....

Check out some video on the web of any of the teams I mentioned. Pick one that is not longer than two minutes or so. I am sure you will be impressed with the talent level these players posess. Then look up an MLS game and you may just wet your pants at how much of a drop off the level of competition sinks.
