Nascar's Jimmie Johnson Gets A Hockey Lesson

It was interesting to watch two time defending NASCAR Spring Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson try to negotiate the ice at the Stars practice facility in Frisco. Johnson flew into town to take a hockey lesson from Stars Center Mike Modano.

Chalk it up to another interesting promotional idea from Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage. "I think he's best suited as Race Car Driver and Modano is best suited to be a hockey player," Gossage said after the cameras faded from the arena. Johnson will be back to race in the Samsung 500 on April 6th.

Gossage is actually the one who should have been wearing the skates because he says he coached hockey for about twelve years. "I haven't been on skates in ten years," he said. "I used to be on skates five days a week." Interesting to hear from the number one gear head in North Texas.

Gossage was the official referee, but never had to separate Modano and Johnson. Johnson actually did quite well, and at one time, hit two goals in a row. They weren't high speed shots, but they were shots. "You think your doing well until you watch a professional go at it," Johnson said. "I watched Mike take some shots, and I said, oh that's how you really do it after watching my sissy little slap shot."
