If you insist on staying in the camp grounds at the Texas Motor Speedway, I found the perfect place. It's the home of Mike Bell, who is in charge of facilities security at the track. He lives in a house with a view of turn three. The house is owned by the track and is occupied by Bell so he can keep an eye on things. In the 90's, he worked for the Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. "It's just like living in the country," says Bell. "You can't beat it, it's quite peaceful." By on raceday, Bell will be surrounded buy 40 or 50-thousand race fans who will be camping just outside his front door. Laura Weeks, Bell's girlfriend, says the requests can be never ending on race weekend. "They ask if we can baby sit, they ask can they use the phone, are the showers available, are we able to have parties and grill n the back in our yard, can they sit in our yard," she says. "The answer is no!" But some requests can be simple. "Can you find my trailer," Bell says laughing. "A lot of them can't remember where they're camping sometimes, but we can get them there if they can just point us in the right direction." It's all part of being a security man at the Texas Motor Speedway |
